HawkerHurricane's NFL power ratings!
Here we go still one more time with HawkerHurricane's weekly NFL power ratings.

The rules are the same: 1 point for each win. 1 additional point for every win the teams you defeated get.
Tiebreaker: best record. In case of tie there also, my opinion.
3 weeks ago placement in parens... Sorry I missed two weeks, work called.
Now, let's see some comments on this! I'm not going to stop posting these just because nobody comments!

32. Jacksonville Jaguars(30) 2 point, 1-6. Is beating the Chargers the only thing they can do?

31. Detroit Lions(29) 3 points, 1-6. Still not impressed.

30. San Diego Chargers(32) 4 points, 1-6. Not in last anymore!

29. Chicago Bears(27) 5 points, 2-5. Almost anybody can beat
Detroit.

28. Oakland Raiders(25) 6 points, 2-5. Underranked? Nope.

27. Atlanta Falcans(23) 6 points, 1-6. No Vick, no hope?

26. Arizona Cardinals(24) 8 points, 2-5. Win against San Fran helped.

25. Houston Texans(16) 8 points, 2-5. If you can't win, you can't
compete.

24. NY Jets(31) 8 points, 2-5. Any hope here?

23. Pittsburgh Steelers(20) 9 points, 2-5. 4 game losing streak hurts lots.

22. New Orleans Saints(28) 9 points, 3-5. Ain'ts still at it.

21. San Francisco 49rs(22) 10 point, 3-5. Winning with class.

20. Cleveland Browns(17) 10 points, 3-5. And I had high hopes.

19. Green Bay Packers(7) 11 points, 3-4. Two losses hurts them, too.

18. Washington Redskins(12) 12 points, 3-4. Two losses, drop in
standings.

17. Denver Broncos(5) 14 points, 5-3 Two losses in a rowhurts
their standings.

16. Cincinati Bengals(27) 15 points, 3-4. Winning streak at two
games!

15. Baltimore Ravens(21) 15 points, 4-3. Mistake in rankings. Mine, I mean.

14. Philadelphia Eagles(11) 16 points, 4-3. No comment. I missed two weeks worth of games.

13. Miami Dolphins(6) 16 points, 5-2. I question this, but that's
what the points say.

12. St. Louis Rams(18) 16 points, 5-2. 3 game winning streak!

11. New York Giants. 17 points, 3-4. Lost them somewhere. I
hate Microsoft Word.

10. Buffalo Bills(8) 17 points, 4-4. I Question this too.

9. Dallas Cowboys(15) 17 points, 5-2. Are they this good?

8. Tampa Bay Bucceneers(19) 17 points, 4-3. Tough schedule.

7. Seattle Seahawks(14) 20 points, 5-2. The mighty stagger.

6. Minnesota Vikings(3) 21 points, 6-1. Loss to Giants hurt a lot.

5. Tennessee Titans(10) 22 points, 6-2. Another 3 game winning
streak.

4. Indianapolis Colts(2) 22 points, 6-1. Loss to Carolina hurt.

3. Carolina Panthers(4) 24 points, 6-1. Lost to New Orleans?
Embarrasing.

2. New England Patriots(9) 29 points, 6-2. Three wins in a row, and
they move way up.

1. Kansas City Chiefs(1) 31 points, 8-0. Can anybody stop them?

2. I think it SUCKS that the Vikings lost, but then again...
...your ratings system is totally unbiased, so I can't argue with that. I'm just PISSED that the Vikes dropped.

5. too late in the day
I love these rankings...particularly with my patriots climbing up. It's really an interesting stat. I'm curious to see how well it correlates to the playoffs.

3. The Bills ahead of the Dolphins???
No way, the phins demolished the bills head to head, and they have a better record. If they hadn't have played the wretched chargers they would have a much higher score on the ranking, and they beat 3 of the teams ranked higher than them (3/5 wins) so wouldn't that kick their numbers higher? I don't understand them dropping 7 points either but the numbers don't lie I suppose.

Still intrigued by the ranking system but the quirks are odd

9. I went to the Dolphins and Chargers monday night game for free
nah nah but the Phins really didn't demolish Buffalo, they won by 10 points.

10. if you watched the game though
they killed them in every aspect, the score didn't reflect the ultimate ass whomping they placed on the cows

11. I did watch the game
Buffalo struggled but they were never out of it. Miami played good but a whomping would be something like a 20+ point win.

14. difference in terms then i guess
never out of it, but never really had a chance either. Miami very rarely puts up enough points for your definition of whomping, but they can definitely kill a team.

8. Yes it hurts their standings
But considering that there are alot of key injuries on that team they are still in a good position. Yes the Chiefs are stoppable, the Broncos came within 1 point of beating the Chiefs at their place and the Raiders were within 1 yard of atleast sending the game into overtime. A lost to New Orleans is not embarrasing, plus I didn't know being 3-4 or 3-5 meant you are having a disappointing season, lots of teams starting off hot last year and slumped and lots of teams starting out slow and skyrocketed. I like your method of ranking teams but the little commentary you add is something I disagree with.

13. I know
Edited on Thu Oct-30-03 04:21 PM by VermontDem2004
But it is insane to think the Chefs are unstoppable. They had more total yards by almost 2x then the Chefs but they didn't have Dante Hall who got a touchdown due to a block in the back. Plus Plummer was playing in the 4th quarter with a bad shoulder and a fractured foot. Wait till the Chefs come to Denver were the Broncos are undefeated.

15. Yeah the Chiefs are not "unstoppable"
but they are the best team in football right now. As far as the block in the back go, well sometimes you get a break and sometimes you get screwed. Thats football for ya. My bet is that the Chiefs will be 14-2 or 15-1. Of course having said that watch 'em end up 8-8

16. Not bad. The Rams need to move up imo
Edited on Thu Oct-30-03 05:36 PM by Ishoutandscream
I think they are ready for a run. Look out for Tennessee, also. The AFC south with the Titans and Colts is very formidable.

Disagree with Buffalo's placement (too high). Miami should be ahead of Dallas, and Denver would be higher if not for the quarterback injury situation.

Yeah, I'm nitpicking. But this is pretty damn good!

Edit - Seattle will start to drop.

19. Welp...
Since the ratings are based solely on wins and how well the team you beat is doing... There is no accounting for injuries, bad referees, bad luck, bad hair days...

Personally, I think SeaHawks and Rams will be in close competition to take the NFC west, with the loser being on of the wildcards. But that could be my bias talking.

I wonder how this would chart out, week by week...maybe I can talk my coworker 'Wheel' into setting it up for the end of the regular season...

18. I'm a Giants fan, and I think you ranked them a little high
If they get up to 4-4, then they should be where they are.

They're better than their record, which is usually the case.

20. Boy It's Hard To Believe. . .
. . .that there are 3 teams worse than the Bears. Man, they're practically unwatchable this year. Now that Villarial is back the O-Line might be a bit better and that might help, but geez, nobody is blocking well, nobody is tackling well, nobody is covering well. A defense that gave up <200 points 2 seasons ago looks just terrible out there.

I know they just beat the Lions, so they're obviously now any worse than that team. I guess we'll see this Sunday against the Chargers if the Bears are bad, or the worst of the worst.

25. One problem with the system
A 'lucky' victory against a good team is worth a lot of points (theoretically, 16 at season's end.)

29. No Flames here
I do think the Chiefs are for real and they will be the AFC team. But it has been so long that I cant flame. I can say that Marty is gone and that will make a big differance. Marty will never win a super bowl(My bro in NY laughed at me when we got Marty) He was right.

We have Dick now and Dick is good:D . So I can keep my hopes high now!!!
