Any gamers out there?
Doesn't matter what type - board, rpg, video, you name it. Just getting a feel for my fellow DUers.

Gamers, let me hear ya!

1. Yup.
I'm a videogamer, still with Nintendo. The 'Legend of Zelda' series is my passion, but I find plenty of enjoyment with other games. Some of my favorite games from this generation have been:

- Beyond Good & Evil
- F-Zero GX
- Tales of Symphonia
- Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

When the next Zelda game is released, I'll probably seal myself in my home for a week and play non-stop..

sheer joy.. :bounce:

3. I am obsessed with Link.
The straight side of me likes the glorious elfin warrior, while the gay side of me drools over... the glorious elfin warrior!

F-Zero GX was too hard for me. I think Mario Kart Double Dash is more my speed (I'm pretty damn good at that one, though).

Haven't played Beyond Good & Evil, heard it's great. I can't stop playing the God of War DEMO my friend sent me - I must play the full game.

Ah, gaming. If only I could run the consoles off solar power, so I wouldn't feel so guilty about hurrying along Peak Oil!

11. Wow.
I'm all about some adult Link. I didn't realize it until about four years into our relationship, but my partner in a green tunic would look pretty much like 'em.
(oops.. did I say too much?)

BG&E has a tremendous political message, believe it or not. In the game, you play the role of a photojournalist who must sneak into different government/military facilities and take incriminating photos of the government's work. The president of the planet is this hyper-jingoistic/militaristic ass who's up to no good, even squelching the mainstream media.. so the photos you take end-up in the planet's indy/underground media. Eventually, the people begin to wake from their slumber, and all hell breaks loose. It's such a hope-inspiring game.. especially for these times..

I'd always planned on having a home off the grid (even before finding out about PO), and video gaming is still a part of that plan. I must find a way.. lol..

22. There are a LOT of Link groupies out there.
And part of why I wanted to play BG&E is because of the political aspect. Sounds like great stuff, I need to check it out (I'll add it to the ever-growing list).

I'm not a great e-driver. I've crashed millions of dollars' worth of cars in the GTA series!

I can, however, cream people at Mario Kart, oddly enough (and not on the low setting). It's a really fun game; after two years I'm STILL discovering new things to do!

29. mostly, WW2 combat flight sims are the kind of game i've always liked
and going mana-a-mano with some guy from another part of the world is pretty cool.

but when you get deeper in AH, you find there is a great volunter community the sets up and runs the special events - long and short term scenarios, dueling ladders, etc. - even pylon racing. there are many other cool features.

there's also the squadron thing - like guilds and clans in other MMOLG.

it's developed and run by a small but dedicated company, people you can call on the phone if you need to.

i think it the best game in any genre on the net right now.

...since the seventies. My wife and I play at least once per week in IRC, using Alternity rules for sci-fi on Wednesdays, and fantasy (Forgotten Realms) on Monday. I play Mr. Nike (named inspired by Jennifer Government), a psionic corporate negotiator and executive leading a group of lost interstellar colonists. On Mondays, I become Magnifico (yes, named from the Foundation trilogy) a witty Shakespearean fool attached to a group of adventurers. We love text as a role-playing medium.

My wife digs computer RPGs, but those rarely hold my interest. I prefer a live game master who can tailor adventures to our characters.

There's a gaming group, as you may know, on this board.

16. My two best friends are heavily into text roleplaying.
They do it every night - they use it as a way to flesh out the stories they create together (one is a writer, the other an artist).

I know there's a gaming group, but it gets little traffic, so I thought I'd post this here, give the gamers a chance to share.

Plus, I'm bored at work. :D

15. Right Here
I play what's called collectible card games, similar to Pokemon but a bit more sophisticated and, arguably, more "adult". I was especially into a Baseball one (think Strat-o-matic but less of a sim) and football one. At Baseball I won airfare/accomodations to compete at a National event in KC one year, and at football I've won a trip to Hawaii+Pro Bowl.

Last month I placed 4th at an event playing for 06 Braves season tickets. Still, 4th got me some auto'd memorabilia and maybe $100 bucks worth of product

I'm also addicted to Console Strategy RPGs. Thats why I would never trade my DS for a PSP. DS plays all my GBA titles whilst PSP has all of ummm zero titles I care about

My faves are the Fire Emblem and Shining Force series (I've imported titles for both from Japan even). Although I hated Final Fantasy Tactics which is odd, but I did like most of the early FF titles (7 was only OK in my eyes and I don't even bother with 8+). Heck, when I was doing alot of travelling last year I even got into Golden Sun

So in case you couldn't tell hard core gamer geek right here :)

38. Well, I could most likely play that game you mentioned
I haven't looked at the specs, but I have an Nvidia GForceIII, before they cheesed them up and called them GForce IVs. My AMD Athlon ( 1.4 ) still smokes the shit out of Pentiums twice its clockspeed that I use at work.

But I would be playing that game at 1/8th the resolution and detail that it was designed for. So before I invest money in games, it's time for me to upgrade this computer to an AMD 64 bit CPU, and a newer video card.

Everything else stays the same. Monitor, kboard, RAM, powersupply, soundboard, network card, high-speed mouse, etc etc

Such is the BENEFIT of PC gaming ;-)

40. Where to begin...
I've played video games all the way back to the Atari 2600. Currently own a Gamecube (don't ask) and a PC (which I play more often)
Love the FPS games (Especially Half-Life 2)
Played World of Warcraft for a while...probably going to play it again soon. But I loved Neverwinter Nights and its expansions.
Some RTS games are fun...loved C&C Generals: Zero Hour.

Roleplayed (Primarily Dungeons and Dragons) since I was 10 (25 years ago) and my own world just enjoyed it's 15th anniversary of existence. I've run almost 10 campaigns in that world...two of them to completion, actually (Both lasted almost 2 1/2 years)

Also played GURPS, Alternity, Star Wars (D20), Cyberpunk...but I keep going back to D&D 3.5

There is nothing wrong with the Gamecube! There have been many great, non-kid games for it. I hate how little respect it gets.

Speaking of FPS, I played Timesplitters: Future Perfect on Gamecube. Solid, fun game. I enjoyed the hell out of it.

And yeah, I probably will get a Revolution when it comes out.

I played the heck outta that game, and then became GM for the most popular lunchtime campaign. Good times.

49. I play a couple
When I had a PC, for years I played Age of Emires/Kings and Tropico. After switching to a Mac, I decided to try shoot 'em ups. I like Call of Duty online if I stumble upon a server with a good (meaning fair playing and friendly) group of players. Machine gun blasting and respawn fests grow old in a few minutes. I prefer stalking and sniping rifle games (or backing up the machine gunners). Also better since I'm on a phone line.

Now and then, I'll play Rise of Nations.

59. Sniping is fun.
I'm also not a fan of respawn fests, since cheaters will simply wait around in some games to whack you right as you respawn.

56. The bigger question is
Can we all agree on a game, and can we all agree on a venue, and can we all agree who has playing the games for years...?

If so, we can get clans going, be it chess, or FPS

63. Here. I'm into FPS shooters.
Edited on Sat Jun-04-05 11:05 PM by Ladyhawk
Right now I'm playing:

1. Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory under the following names: "^6Commander ^3Cuckoo-Bananas" and "^1General ^4Hospital" When I play, it's usually on the beetlejz server.

2. MAME32's old arcade games

3. X-Wing Alliance with DarkSaber's Ultimate Craft Pack. I'm in the midst of a Star Wars obsession

I have tons of other games. My all-time favorites were Descent 1 and 2, played online via Kali. I miss being able to enjoy those old games. D2 won't work on my system. After my move, I will probably rig an older system (Win 98, Voodoo II cards in SLI) just to play some of the older games.

I loved TFC and still play it occasionally. I've been trying to talk myself into playing some of the other HL mods like Natural Selection and Day of Defeat, but I suck so badly at NS, it isn't fun. :)

I can't afford an upgrade right now or I'd be playing HL2 and Doom 3. Oh well. I'm hoping when I feel better I can use my computer knowledge to earn just a bit of money so I can pay off my credit card debt and buy an upgrade.

67. Do you use a mouse for FPSing? I just can't do it.
I think that's part of why I never became a PC gamer. Well, that, and the cost factor.

I can't believe the Doom 3 guys couldn't program a way to use the flashlight and gun at the same time, and you have to download a patch to do so. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

69. Yep, I use a mouse for FPS games.

I have a wireless mouse (Logitech MX700) on a Ratpadz mousing surface. If I use Armour-All or Pledge on the Ratpadz, it's slicker than snot on a doorknob. The movement is so fluid, it's unreal. I hold my own in ET, even though I'm not a constant player.

I also use a nostromo speedpad n50 and voice commands a la Game Commander 2. Everything is organized in a gaming book I have that shows my nostromo config on one page and my voice commands on the other. I'm sort of obsessive about having a good configuration. Since I don't play much, having decent gaming equipment and a good configuration helps even things out. :D

it is a good computer role playing game as long as you keep the sound off when the characters are talking(the voice acting is bad you'll cry when you hear the French accent.)

And if you can ignore the inconsistencies and contradictions of the previous ultimas like in the museum, The game insults your intelligence when you find Korghin’s Fang in the museum. An item from Pagan! From Pagan! How in the world did it make its way to Britannia? And why do the people know how it is related to the Avatar? Ahh, I know: the Guardian had been watching the Avatar on Pagan, right?

78. I use to be heavy into PC gaming.
But cut back the last year after my son was born and now cut back all the way due to carpal tunnel. I have to save my wrist time for work(programmer).

I've found the PS2 to be much easier on my wrists so I picked up one and I've subscribed to Gamefly.com to rent games. Right now I'm playing some Final Fantasy IX, Prince of Persia Sands of Time and the new Tom Clancy game is on its way.
