Why is Poppy called Poppy?
He was called Poppy before he was a poppy correct? One hilarious biography, "Born To Run Things" said it was because he "popped" i.e. vomitted when he was nervous. Is that true?

20. Yes
Poppies were under a controlled before the invasion and now they're just going crazy with selling and stuff. I've heard the poppies too and that's why he's called that. It was from an Australian documentary called "The Illumanti."

16. actually, yeah -- didn't Barbara Bush nickname him?
Edited on Thu Jun-02-05 08:09 PM by Lisa
Someone once referred to her husband as "George" and she said, "George is my son -- that one (pointing at GHWB) is Poppy."

p.s. I've also heard that it started when his uncles called him "little Pop". I don't know why they would do this, because he wasn't the eldest -- surely would have been more appropriate for his older brother Prescott Jr.

13. Oh, sorry...
It's a common Middle Eastern term; means "Allah wills it", and it's used to explain any number of phenomena, e.g.

"There's no hot water in my hotel room!" "Insh'Allah."

"The car bomb destroyed my laptop!" "Insh'Allah."

"Why is Poppy called Poppy???" "Insh'Allah."

etc. I often drop it in to get my post count up and confound the poster.
