I made a sculpture called the Eternally Burning American Flag.
The flag has two sheets of flag painted steel welded together at the edges. It has propane piped into it to keep the flames going. The flag pole rises above a gas grill where the propane tank is. Astroturf around the base of the grill finishes it off. It's pretty cool! I still have it, and would be happy to set it up for any demonstrations.

3. I have photos of it, but they aren't digital photos.
Also though I've learned how to repost graphic images, I've not yet learned how to post my own digital photos. I think it might have something to do with this Photobucket thing I've heard of. Believe me, I'd very much like to be able to post my photography, and other artwork on DU. It's a large flag, about three feet by two feet. My biggest worry in making it was that the metal flag part might explode, rather than just having flames come out of holes at the upper corner. With a full propane tank the flames can last all day.

4. Can I send you a PM with instructions?
I am in lovelovelove with your courage, and your art should be seen. (And I'm selfish enough to want you to join us in the DU Artists' Group.)

7. Sure, send me a PM with instructions.
I'd love to join the DU artist group. I'm going to be going off line now though, so I'll have to read it later. Thank you!

5. It doesn't strike you as political and/or social commentary? (nt)

6. It was a sculpture class art project, and I enjoy welding.
I like making big metal things. I've had it going at art parties, but never at any demonstrations.

8. It's also a play on the Eternal Flame concept
like the Eternal Flame at JFKs grave.
