CNN BREAKING NEWS: Houses sliding downhill in Laguna Beach!
The reporter just said it's "inexplicable" as to why they're sliding downhill.

Meanwhile, no mention of the Downing Street Minutes at all. 32 days and counting.

Happy 25th B-Day CNN, you piece of crap news channel.

2. Yes, just saw this. At least six homes are completely demolished...
Edited on Wed Jun-01-05 10:54 AM by Misunderestimator
two are still hanging over the "new" cliff made by the slide. Apparently no one was injured.... (or at least no reports of injuries... could be people trapped.)

As for reporting this... uh... yes, it is news. Would rather criticize news about American Idol or Michael Jackson.

3. "inexplicable"

5. Inexplicable?
Not at all. Lots of rain, plus soft dirt that they've known about since the initial geological survey of the area prior to construction being initiated combined with crooked contractors and construction companies . . . hell, it's a surprise the houses haven't slid sooner (Oh wait, they did a few years ago farther up the coast).

As to the memo, those houses aren't the only thing sliding down hill, media credibility and integrity is also sliding downhill for reasons just as easily explainable.

10. It's almost like there's some weird force in the universe!
Something that tugs objects down slopes! Could this have something to do with why dropped objects tend to fall towards the ground?

12. Back when I was a girl, and the earth was flat . . .
we actually had to tow houses downhill behind our Huffy, banana-seat bikes during Oklahoma blizzards in July!

(I think you're onto something, 11cents.)

16. Well, ya know . . .
it was the 70s, back before that newfangled gravity technology, and it _was_ Oklahoma.

18. It's a drug called "helium."
Back in the old days, after a long day of towing houses downhill behind our banana-seat Huffy bikes, we'd sometimes raid rich kids' birthday parties for their drug-filled balloons, and sit in front of the houses at the foot of the hill, inhaling helium and swearing in high voices about the fact that gravity had not yet been invented.
