2. Do you close the gas supply line when you finish?
I had a Toro self propelled that did the same thing, it was from not turning the gas supply petcock off.

4. You could be right,.. if it has a petcock valve, it's for that reason.

3. Wooohooo!! Ride it!
lol Wish I was familiar with that engine - maybe the fuel does leak when you're not using it...

5. CHANGE THE AIR FILTER
And drain the oil and put fresh oil in it.

Then you will be fine.

It's sucking more gasoline than air because the filter is clogged and its pooling in the crankcase.

7. Carburetor troubles...
Depending on the type of carb., either the needle and seat are shot (or trash is lodged in them, holding them opena bit), or the float's cracked and leaking, or the check valves on the "pumper" type carb. are leaking.

If the fuel tank has a shut off valve, use it...it's why it's there. If not, have the carb. rebuilt and that should solve your problem.

8. Have I got the site for you!
http://www.briggsandstratton.com/display/router.asp?DocID=64103

Your carburetor's probably gunked up from sitting all winter would be my first guess, and perhaps the float stuck.

Get the numbers off the engine label and you can download a free illustrated parts breakdown, plus there are plenty of maintenance tips.

You can order B & S parts from the site at a reasonable price...even order a shop manual if you want.

Don't throw it out yet!

10. So let me see...
We've got blown rings, an open petcock, clogged/screwed-up carburetor, dirty air filter...

I say you fucked up, told Matcom to put gas in it, and he poured it down the oil filler tube instead of the gas filler tube. "Fuck it, he said put gas in it, it's in. What more do you want?"

My vote: stuck float valve in the carb, caused by you leaving gas with no fuel stabilizer in it all winter.

My cure: drain ALL the gas, put in fresh, overhaul the carb (take it apart, haul the carb body to a machinist who will clean it out good for five bucks or so, buy a rebuild kit and a new float then put the carb back together with the new parts from the kit), change the plug and the oil, and see what that does.
