Is there anyone who loves Bela Fleck's Music more then me?
Just figured I would go along with the flow here. He's my all time favorite musician, I must own everything he's recorded. For those who don't know, Bela Fleck is a Banjo Virsuosso who has completely revolutionized his instrument. I invite all who haven't heard him to check out the website of his band, The Flecktones, at www.flecktones.com, they also have shows availble on archive.org. He also has many solo projects and other compilations. He get's more out of his instrument than anyother musician I know. Many of his songs are like poems, I can feel them. They have texture (No I am not stoned!) :)

3. That's awesome!
Where did you meet him? In every interview I have seen of him he always seems like a nice, down to earth guy. A guy who would be cool just to BS with all night.

6. I think he is very shy.
He was not talkative at all and I thought that he thought I was a geek (he may have) but others here on DU who "know" him or had met him said that he is usually pretty quiet.

I saw the Flecktones for the first time when they fronted for Dave Matthews Band. I had heard some of them but never together. I saw them again in New Orleans and then again in Lawrence last year and that is when I met them. I took my sons and their friends and we had heard that if you wait until after the concert they come out to talk to you and they did. I had a wonderful time talking to Futureman and to Jeff Coffin. They were the most engaging. Victor was also nice but not as talkative.

I have seen Bela with Edgar Meyer and that was really a great concert. I have also seen Victor with his brother Reggie. They all seem to like Lawrence, Kansas so I drive on in whenever there is one of them around.

I love me some Bela! Though I have to admit I dig his straight up bluegrass stuff more than his work with the Flecktones. :headbang:

Edited for spastic typing

Is his duette work with Edgar Meyer. Simply fantastic! They play off each other so well. Right now I am listening to "Solo Banjo Works."

10. For an alternative take on Edgar Meyer's work check out...
his work with Jerry Douglas (great dobro player) especially Skip, Hop and Wobble by Douglas, Russ Barenberg (guitar) and Meyer. Great stuff, one of my all time favorite albums.

11. Thanks! I am going to have to check that out
What's great about bela is that since he has such an ear for talent I have ended up discovering other musicians and musical styles I have never heard of.

7. There is
a poster here with the name LeftofCool. I have never asked if he/she is a Flecktones fan, just sort of assumed it.

9. Bela rocks!
Everything from his Newgrass stuff to the Flecktones to his classical works. He surrounds himself with the best and most challanging musicians around. I've only seen him live a couple times, but I'm looking forward to the next time he comes into the area! :bounce:
