What is the best ergonomic keyboard?
My Micro$uck Natural Keyboard died and I need to replace it with something that will be good for a body that is falling apart. :)

8. I get better every day as far as healing from surgery,
but I'm not sure whether or not the surgery is going to help. It's really too early to tell. Luckily, I'm off most of the heavy duty medication. One thing that is definitely better: my neck doesn't constantly throb. That's good.

I still have numbness in my right thumb, which drives me batty. It's been numb for over three years and might never come back. I hope that eventually I can get used to it. It's not painful, just annoying...kinda like Jar-Jar Binks.

2. I've used the Adesso Tru-form for years.
Took about three days to get used to, and has probably extended the service life of my hands by about 10 years.

Not only is it a split-key design, it also has a hump in the middle so you don't have any wrist pronation.

4. Pronation?
Where did you pick that word up? Very impressive.

B-)

5. If I remember right, I got it at K-Mart;
they were having a sale, and the savings were so great I couldn't resist.

7. I ran across that one during my search last night.
It was reviewed on a Mac site, but I assume it comes in a PC flavor as well?

I remember that you have chronic pain, Redstone. I hope you're feeling OK-ish. I've had chronic pain for several years...just waiting to see if the surgery takes. Anyway, your recommendation is noted. You understand that every part of the body is affected by chronic pain...ugh.

Feel better, Redstone.

13. Thank you, madam LH;
tonight has been quite a good night so far (starting a new drug therapy, and it seem so be taking hold). Words of understanding like yours are treasures.

You had carpal-tunnel surgery, is my guess correct?

The Adesso keyboard is USB, so I would guess it works with Windows as well. I do run Virtual PC on the Mac, which is genuine Windows software running under emulation, and have no problems with the keyboard, so it should work for you.

If you buy one and it helps your hands feel better, let me know...in that case I could recommend it to others.

Thanks again for the good thoughts,

Redstone

15. I'm glad to hear that your new drug therapy may be working! If so,
won't that be a relief??? While I was in the hospital getting morphine, I felt so good. I was completely pain-free for the first time in about four years! It makes me wish there was a therapy drug that works as well as morphine. :(

I had a two-level cervical fusion operation. I had (have) pain radiating from my neck into my arms and hands. Nasty, nasty, nasty! It gets old.

17. Either C3 and C4, or C4 and C5 would be my guess,
and you have my sympathy, either one.

But further than the ergo keyboard, given that you have neck problems, you should make sure that your monitor is DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF YOU (it makes my neck hurt when I see people with computer monitors off to one side on their desk), and at the proper height--the top of the screen area of your monitor whould be about level with your eyes, so you're looking down a bit.

Raising a monitor above eye level is as bad, ergonomically, as having the monitor off to one side so you have to turn your head to look at it.

18. C4-5 and C5-6...two discs removed.
I have my monitor sitting on my Audubon book. I should probably get a couple of old telephone books instead because I miss the old Audubon book. :)

The darn keyboard isn't in front of the monitor. I have a HUGE monitor that I can't really move...hey, it wasn't so hard...just sliding it on the book. :) Now I'm a bit better aligned.

I wish you healing and a pain-free life. :)

19. Thank you for the kind wishes, but you need to move
that monitor so it's straight ahead of you. No matter how much work it takes.

If you don't you'll wish you had. Trust me on this.

9. Yes, I found them at PriceWatch for about that.
I'm also thinking about going USB so I can shut off my PS/2 ports. I've been building this PC for several years now and the only original piece of equipment are my two cheapo speakers. I'd like to swap them out, too, believe me.

11. have you heard about the DAs keyboard?
it's marketed to the ubergeek, BUT the keys are weighted differently for each of your 5 fingers which sounds like it could be ergonomically rather friendly. It sounds brilliant

21. I don't use an ergo keyboard...
I have a Happy Hacking "mini" keyboard which I have proped up in front. This make the profile almost flat, just like my piano. Being a keyboards player makes me sensitive to arm position. My favorite computer keyboard is on my Thinkpad 600E- totally flat. It doesn't force my wrists into wierd positions. Also with the flat keyboard, the fingers are going straight down instead of out at an angle. A slanted typewriter-type keyboard drives me nuts.
