Poll question: Best "Sunbelt" city.
My vote goes to adopted town of San Diego.

I know San Francisco is in CA but I remember freezing my ass off at night in August.

1. This is sad. I have traveled to about 38 states but not one Sun Belt
city!

5. I said the "best". Vegas is not one of my favorites, I guess.

6. I love austin. Been here since '76... but I am ready to leave
I am looking toward the mountains of NM, the last thing I want to see when I retire is a "city"...

9. As much as I love Austin, I'd move to San Diego in a heartbeat.
Two conditions:

1. Find me a good job.

2. Find a sucker to buy my house.

I love San Diego. :)

10. There are many jobs out here? What do you do?
You shouldnt have a problem selling a house in a nice city like Austin.
You'll love it here.
I came here in 1980 after growuing up in Boston and spending four years in Florida. Been here ever since, and despite the repugs, I will never move from here.

11. I'm a mid-level government drone.
:)

I just bought this house a year ago, so I'd get hosed if I sold it right now. Maybe I can develop a 18-24 month plan.

I really do like it out there though.

12. Plenty of govt. jobs out here with all the miltary bases.
Move here and rent your place out. maybe you can make up the difference in the cost of living out here.

14. I don't necessarily have to have a gov't job.
It's just what I've been doing for 13 years. I checked it out a few years ago, but I didn't know anyone out there to help me network.

I could rent this place, I guess. But I still want to wait at least 12 months. We're due a raise at work, and that will help me do some planning and setting aside of cash. Like I said, it's a process.

15. For sun and fun, make mine good old Palm Springs!
That includes the (very) nearby towns of Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, Indian Wells, etc. Something about the desert really jazzes me up -- I get very energized there.:bounce:

The summer bake-off is a big downside, but most of the evenings are swim-worthy!

17. New Orleans: geographically in the Sunbelt, but not of it.
It was there for decades upon decades when everything around it for several hundred miles in any direction was uninhabited swampland, or Indian country.

It is, in many respects, much more like an Eastern Seaboard port city, or perhaps, say, San Francisco. The authentic "N'Awlins" accent, for instance, is not a bit Southern; it sounds more like, would you believe, Brooklyn.
