I'm going on a a "date" tonight.
It's my first "date" in almost 20 years. I feel like I'm an awkward teenager all over again. It's pretty exciting.

I took off work early so I could get ready. Here's the list so far of preparations.

Had my nails done

Had my hair deep conditioned and trimmed.

Bought new makeup

Showered and applied lotion

Applied new makeup and straightened my hair.

Spent 20 minutes trying on clothes and decided I need to go shopping before my next date.

Settled on a turquoise broomstick skirt that goes to just below my knees and a black semi off the shoulder knit top.

Finally found the other turquoise beaded shoe I was looking for (how it got under the bed I still don't know).

Rummaged through my jewelery until I settled on just the right pieces.

Checked in the mirror to make sure my butt didn't look big and did a practice walk to see how the skirt flowed. Butt is fine and the skirt flows like the silk it is.

I'm ready and I don't have to leave here until 6:00 to meet him for dinner. That's almost two hours from now. LOL!

I'm an excellent conversationalist so I'm not worried about once I get there, if I survive to that point all will be fine.

I'm usually very calm and casual. Why is one silly meal and a movie getting me so worked up?

Please, tell me this gets easier with practice. :P

5. Don't worry?
But what if I fall on my face or drop my pasta in my lap? Hmmm? It could happen you know!

I know it's all going to be fine, I just feel like I'm sailing in uncharted territory. :)

Thanks for the good wishes!

18. You'll be wonderful, and we'll all be thrilled to hear it went well.
Besides, if you drop pasta in your lap and he has to criticize that, he doesn't deserve such a well prepared, considerate dinner date as yourself.

PS: I'm starting to have to do this all over again, myself. It hasn't gotten easier, but at least you know what to expect. Don't you worry about a thing.

9. Just be sure to take a major credit card, a little cash, and no
expectations. I've always found that expectations get in the way of having a good time. And remember, you bring your own good time with you. If the date goes south, you can get out(thats the cash and credit card). Good luck.

I should have been paying more attention to what my friends were wearing on first dates over the years. I almost called for backup but decided to wing it. Better to be me from the beginning I thought. :)

24. what is easier?
I cannot ever remember doing that much work for a date. Now I feel like I screwed up somehow. All I did was get clean clothes, shave, and a little Köln. I should have done more.

For me, asking a girl out is like going off a high diving board, a very high board. So I finally get a date, go on it, and have no clue what happens next. So I call up my sister and ask her. She says "ask her out again". So there I am climbing up the 1000 steps to go off the high dive. Sheesh, talk about wanting it to be easier, and I never have reached the point where it was easy. But that is just me. I think it can be as easy as the woman wants to make it, but the girls I dated probably would tell a different story.

26. I asked him out
I think I know that diving board feeling. He seemed to like being asked out and we had been flirting. I just decided to stick my toe in the waters and check the temperature. Next thing I knew I was standing on the end of that diving board taking the leap. :P

From here on out I'm flying by the seat-of-my-pants.

37. Yes, I'm meeting him at the restaurant
I chose one I knew we both liked to eat at and they have a nice atmosphere. It's within walking distance of the theater, too. Since I wasn't sure what movie he'd want to see I suggested we decide during the meal. I have my list of what's playing and the start times in my bag.

Comfortable was a must on the outfit. I didn't want to be nervous and wearing something I can't live in at the same time. :)
