Trying to make a decision on something.
The Van Cliburn International Piano Competition semifinals are this Sunday. I found a ticket in the upper upper nosebleed balcony for $20. I LOVE piano and haven't ever been to this amazing competition.

Should I go? It's $20, plus tax, plus parking yada yada yada.

The only reason I'm hesitating is:

a) I'm a tightwad and $20 seems steep to me and

b) how crappy is my seat going to be, being waaaaaay the hell up there?

Oh the family wouldn't be going because kids under 12 aren't allowed to go and my husband isn't interested. So it would just be me.

1. Go.
Do I need to say it again? Go.

You may be a tightwad, but you can afford the twenty bucks. Not only that, you'll probably regret it if you don't go. You'll wonder what you missed.

Just go.

2. Go, but don't be surprised when the choad-jugglers over at CU
make a stink about it. We're not supposed to spend our money on anything but groceries, remember?

They can go shave an ass and jump in a lake of lemon pladge as far as I'm concerned.

6. What?
How weird. I'm not supposed to support the arts? Fuck 'em, my family eats. I don't read that sewer so I wouldn't know about any of their self-righteous proclamations about what I should and shouldn't spend my money on.

But that did make up my mind. Now I'm going for sure.

10. BTW, they think you and I are the same person.
I'm not kidding. There was a thread about it a few weeks ago.

I say GO!

12. WHAT?
Ok, seriously, what?

They sound more deluded than I previously thought. Those little paranoid fantasies must be fun, anyway.

I can't figure out why you and me. That seems so.....random.

And kind of funny, too.

Wait, does that mean you are me or I am you? I'd like to see what it's like to be a guy for a day. Then maybe we can switch, is that cool?

:D

13. I'd love to be a woman for a day.
Or a week. Hell, a year!

They thought you and I were the same person because I posted a thread about my boss being racially profiled and they thought my phrasing sounded or read like yours. They must have some strong fucking drugs over there.

Seriously...I don't have the stomach to dredge up that particular thread right now (or ever), but it's there. Maybe one of their moles can post it.

16. Even if someone does post it, I'm not clicking on it.
That place is fucking foul. The one time I ever went there, flies started swarming around my monitor and I could smell this odd burning/rotting flesh smell coming out of the screen. I got out of there, poof it was gone. WEIRD.

I'll take being a guy for....about a week. Then I want to go back to being female!

4. Go
Sounds like a cool thing, and I can't imagine they'd have it someplace where there would truly be terrible seats. Enjoy!

5. The acoustics will probably suck
Usually nosebleed seats get all the feedback and sound bounce in every venue i've ever been in. Of course, I don't usually go to solo piano competitions.

If your really into this sort of thing, then go. If not, stay home and tickle the ivories.

8. Well, the performance hall it's being held in is
exceptionally good regarding acoustics.

7. Flip a coin.
If you feel good about the results, go with what the flip results were. If you feel off about it, then do the opposite.

14. I have a great way to decide.

If you can empty your mind, this works really well.

Flip a coin, heads you go - tails not. But heres the kicker - observe your reaction in the *immediate* aftermath of seeing which way the coin goes... in that moment, you'll know what your gut says - before the big brain steps in and starts analyzing and dissecting. It works for me, as I tend to overthink stuff.

FWIW, I agree with the others... GO! Who cares what the sound quality is like, you're not going for the sound quality, with a room full of people sniffing, and coughing, and shifting around in their seats... you go for the spark - the magic, right?

Besides it's good to get away from your SO once in a while, and let your mind wander free to follow its own whims. Come on, it's the Van Cliburn - the woodstock for the hopelessly nerdy. A year from now, you'll remember the spectacle, but you won't remember where you spend the twenty bucks if you don't go.

On edit: I see mr Kick-ass-bob went and beat me to the punch on the coin toss. Slow it down, buster!

17. Go. Have a wonderful time. Enjoy yourself listening to all that music
I just read up on it at www.cliburn.org.

If I were there, I'd go!!! Lucky you -- except for living in Texas. ;)

18. I'd go. You can always leave if it's crappy, but if it's good, and
you missed it, you can't get it back.

20. Definitely GO
I just attended the funeral of a good friend of 20 years this week and have spent the week wishing we had done this or gone there. She was 56 years old and had much ahead of her. It's life that you are to be living so live it who knows how much we have left.
