It's below 60 and foggy today
That's how I know summer has arrived on the West side of San Francisco....

See the fog bank in the background? It will be covering my house until September....

2. Yup. May Gray followed by June Gloom here on the south coast.
Most days, the sun won't come out til about 1:00, only to have the fog roll in again around 4.

Same weather forecast every day: "Late night and early morning low clouds and fog, giving way to some afternoon sunshine."

5. Yeah, but It's still about 10 degrees warmer there, and not as windy.
We pride ourselves on freezing bermuda-shorted tourists who never fail to NOT heed the warnings to "dress in layers"

I used to live in San Diego. June Gloom was slightly different, but it sure kept it nice and cool near the coast.

11. I laugh at people who think California summers at the beach mean "hot"
Shucks, I live in coastal So Cal and I can count the days I wear shorts in any given year on one hand!

Now, go 25 miles inland and it's a completely different story.

BTW: day 3 of no sun.

4. High 80s and sunny today. The week's forecast is nothing but sunny and 80s
My daughter was just in San Francisco the other day. She and her dad were traveling by car from here to Northern California south down the state. They were in Los Angeles last night.

I told her not to expect to wear shorts in San Francisco.

7. ah yes, spent 10 years on the east side
In SOMA. Rarely did it get above 70 on the summer. Saved a lot of money on PG&E bills. Never had AC and never needed it.

I remember one day in 1998 it actually got above 100F. I spent the day in the Library for the free AC.

9. I'm glad I'm further inland
Santa Cruz mountains south of Los Gatos. We get enough of the ocean fog to keep it from being unbearably hot but not so much that it's foggy and cool so much of the time.

I love this area!

This is the view from my front door - there's a cathedral of Redwoods above me surrounding the upper deck.

And this is my own little deck on the side of the house -

And this is the Spanish Inquisition -

12. Ha! You non-Pacificans don't know what fog is
Until you've had the fog roll into your house through the screens, you don't know fog :-)
