Pretty cool stuff. Type in "Karl Rove" here: http://www.zabasearch.com/

BTW this is NOT an advertisement for this web-site.

5. Yes. Imagine being a battered woman who's moved far away...
from her abuser, for safety's sake. Now he can find her with a click of a mouse.

Sickening, and it ought to be illegal.

13. so's my sister -- and god dammit, I found her current address and phone --
and she pays to be unlisted. FUCK.

I found her abuser, I think, and went to buy the background/criminal check. It won't do it w/out street address, city and state. Well, how the fuck should I know that shit? :grr:

27. Might try this site.....
www.usa-people-search.com/

Looks like you can search by name and then pay for different levels of infor.

Found it while looking up myself.

Guess there's little point in having an unlisted number anymore because I'm listed on both sites. That stinks.

Just looking through electronic white pages also supplies addresses.

2. I did try - several times
In each case the information it returned was old, sometimes a couple of decades old. I'm unimpressed with zabasearch's results and appalled at their intent.

16. There are a dozen sites where for 29.99 you can get current info.
And much more info, too. There's a real good service that advertises on Classmates.com, and I think the fact that they advertise there is indicative of what the most common use of these things is; looking up old friends.

I think its absurd to think that the promoters of this service intend it to be used by stalkers and abusers, any more than the publishers of telephone books do. The mere fact of your existence and location has never been considered "private."

Maybe its because I am middle-aged, and have many old friends I have lost track of, that I find it fascinating and benign. I also know a surprising number of people who have looked up old loves and wound up marrying them.

The misuse and abuse by a few should not justify a flat prohibition affecting everyone.

3. It looks as if
they uses the phone book to get results. My parent's phone is in my name and when I do a search for me in the state, that's where I show up.

It doesn't show where I currently am nor does it show what my current number is, which leads me in the phone direction.

19. lord, it sucks. something. awful. Looked my wife up
and it listed places my relatives have lived - not her, with their phone numbers. (and not our current address.)

How the hell does it search???

So, no real problem for stalkers - they'd get quite a shock when they see some strange man when they expect a younger woman.

9. For the people who find this wrong
That info is out there everywhere. It has always been and it will be. As long as you have a listed telephone number, it is out there. Before the Internet, you just had to go to the public library and look it up in the phone books.

15. I don't know
Maybe you gave it out to a business or something. The whole "unlisted" thing has changed a lot in the last few years.
I guess what I meant was that a lot of this information is out there anyway. You can go to many sites and look up people. The Ultimate White pages has a lot of different lookups.
I have never had a "unlisted" number, so I don't know too much about what has become of that option.
I just don't know. You got me! :hi:
