This feral cat had kittens in my back yard, HELP!!

This feral cat that eats at my house had kittens in the middle of my yard and abandoned them yesterday. I'm trying to feed them myself. Anyone have any experience doing that? is it hopeless? How often should I feed them and how much each time?
I'm feeding them catmilk by Whiskas with a syringe I got from the veterinarian....I was hopeing the mother would come back but no luck yet.

Daizy, my female dog found one of them and was laying down next to it like she was guarding it from my other dog and I found another one under a hedge...So I'm feeding 2.

The mother is completely wild.

1. First and foremost: DO NOT PANIC!!!!
Second, you're doing find - your local petsmart/petco should also have kitten formula available that they can use.

What I would do is google your area for a cat rescue group, I'm not sure what part of the country you are from, but you PM me I'll help locate some sources. On the bright side - most kittens will NOT be euthanized since kittens are always easy to adopt out.

2. Lynne's right. Second: CALL YOUR HUMANE SOCIETY.
Most local humane societies have lots of volunteers who routinely take in abandoned kittens. Get some help. Good job to come here and ask. Now get on the phone.

Feed every two hours round the clock (see why I say call the H.S.?) and keep them warm.

Best wishes to you!

3. I've done this before....

Hand raised a new born kitten abandoned by it's mother in my backyard. It grew into one of the best cats I've ever known. Call your vet to make sure that the milk replacement formula you're using is good enough. Get some kitten bottles and nipples too-- let them suck the milk themselves. You can inadvertently squirt it down their airway if you use a syringe. Keep them warm-- a heating pad on it's lowest setting works, but it's still too hot to put them on directly-- it works best under a box with a towel inside for the kittens, or even just under the towel. Stimulate their urination and defecation with a damp, warm wash cloth-- you must do this, everytime you feed them. Feed them every 2 hours or so for the first couple of weeks, then you can ease up to every 3-4 hours, but feed as much as they want. THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT-- set your alarm every two hours! I'm sure you can find more good info online, too.

4. KMR is kitten replacement milk. The can will have directions on it.
You're doing fine. The previous advice about finding a rescue and calling the humane society are spot on. You can go to petfinder.com and find a list of active rescues in your area. Feeding is every 2 hours, as stated previously, and definitely keep them warm and together.

You can also try calling your vet for advice. He/she may also have other resources for you.

I think that Daizy deserves an extra treat for guarding that kitten...

5. Thanks for responding
I'm more assured Ican do this now....

I didnt think the responce would be that quike. Anyway, I live in a rural area outside Mobile Alabama and our Humane Society in my county leaves a lot to be desired so I'm not calling them, I guess.

I'll try to feed them myself untill they can eat canned food and then find them a home. If it were more than 2 I might try to get help but I think I can handle this.

Did a search and found this site http://www.hdw-inc.com/tinykitten.htm about hand feeding rescued baby kittens and it looks like they cover everything so ...wish me luck.

7. Thank you soooo much

I'm looking around the site now and it's fairly close to me.

The first few feedings the kittens didnt seem to like it and I was having to force the milk a little bit, that'swhy I was so concerned, but this last feeding (just after the first post on this) both of them started sucking right away and I never had to force it so they're doing fine so far.

Again thanks for the advice and link.
