Name a band that broke up after only one album.
The Sex Pistols come to mind, even though about 600 Pistols albums came out post-breakup.

3. They Did Have A Live Album, Though
Duane wasn't on it, but there was a live album. I had it, and loved it, back in the early or mid-70's.

2. The Dream Academy.
I think anyway.

I may have heard tell of a follow-up album, but memory fails.

29. Blind Faith was my pick too
much to the detriment of society.

Although post-Blind Faith Traffic is some of the best music ever made.

The new release with the extra jam disc is fantastic, for any BF fans out there!

I think Smashing Pumpkins put out two brilliant albums (Gish and Siamese Dream), then went to complete shit.

Much like Tom Scholz with Boston, a band they were often compared to soncially and personally.

22. Mad Season
Another short-lived project with a Seattle angle. Layne Staley was the singer, and they had other members of the grunge scene. It was actually a pretty good album, as I remember. More metal than grunge.

While i personally like Jimmy, i think very little of Billy, both as a player and a person. I think we've seen enough of him.

10. Temple of the Dog
Although they were formed as a one-off band in the first place. The whole album was a tribute to Mother Love Bone's singer who had died.

Cool disc, though. Had some good cuts on it. Most of the members were in either Soundgarden or Pearl Jam.

Then the singer died and the other guys went on to Pearl Jam.

16. Oh. I thought they formed as a benefit for the homeless.
"Hunger Strike" was a great song and video. I used to watch the video when I was in the Army, and I'd say to the other guys: "That's where I live! I live in Washington!" I loved the shots of the Port Townsend light. Even though I live in Puyallup.

I miss those days, the early '90's. It seemed like progressivism was bustin' out all over. Now it's all gone. :(

20. I don't remember the homeless angle
Other than "Hunger Strike", although they might have used the band as a vehicle to do some benefits.

Plant hinted at it in Entertainment Weekly a few weeks ago. Which would be highly cool, that's a fun record.

18. United States of America
Pioneering psychedelic electronic band from NYC, made one album, then founder Joseph Byrd split for the coast and started a similar band out there called Joe Byrd and the Field Hippies, which also only made one album. (The latter band was notable for having an organist known solely by the name "Pot.")

Byrd subsequently did the scary-brilliant symphonic/electronic setting for Phil Ochs' "Crucifixion."

28. Yeah, but
(a) United States of America had that NYC edge to them-- e.g. ring modulating the vocals, or the snark level of "I Wouldn't Leave My Wooden Wife for You, Sugar," whereas Fifty Foot Hose was definitely a San Francisco peace-and-love type band.

(b) Fifty Foot Hose re-formed (sort of-- founder Corky Moskowitz put together a new bunch of people) and made a couple new records, which takes them out of the criteria of this thread. (We got to see them play at Terrastock 2, and they were quite good.)

30. Not a SF peace and love style band.
Not by a long shot. Red The Signpost is hardly peace and love. Nor is If Not This Time. I saw the performance at Terrastock 2 as well, they were ok. Mind you I like both bands/lps a great deal. Current bands like Broadcast et al are a pretty pale reflection.

26. Low and Sweet Orchestra
To be honest, I don't know of anyone else that's ever heard of them but they were a band made up of players from the Pogues, Thelonius Monster, and Circle Jerks and also featured the actor Dermott Mulroney and his brother (not as singers).

The general sound was a more restrained Pogues mixed with a string band and their one album (Goodbye to All That) was catchy as hell. I don't know if it was always meant as a one-shot thing but they never did release another album much to my disappointment.

32. "Goodbye to All That" is one of my favorite records!
I have known Mike since his Horsehead days and he has always been a fantastic writer. His "Clean The Dirt" from then is another unknown masterpiece. He now has a solo record, and it continues his high standards.
They did record a second record for Interscope, but it was never released.
