1. I don't get them often enough for Imitrex.
Although I did as a child. I got them nearly every single day. They run in my family. I hope that when I have children, I don't pass that on. They are excruciatingly painful. Like you are getting stabbed in the head. But the only good thing about them is how great you feel when they are gone. It's like Heaven.

2. I never had one till I was 25, and now I've had them for over 20 years.
No family history that I know of. The saving grace uis that I have a great neurologist and the meds are much better than they used to be. I feel so bad for children who have them, its just not fair.

4. I know. My little cousin gets them (I guess he got the gene).
He has to be brought home from school about once a month. He'll be throwing up and crying. But after some medication and a nap in a dark, silent room, he's okay.

My mom took me all over to docs as a child b/c I would wake up in the middle of the night screaming at least once a week. And the other days, I would always have a headache. Luckily I pretty much grew out of them. I still get the occasional one, but nothing like when I was a child.

3. I've Had a Type of Night Migraine for Years
although thankfully it's become less frequent as I've gotten older. Have a stash of Maxalt just in case, but that's almost as much of a shock to the system as letting the migraine run its course.

5. My kid
has had them constantly for nearly 3 years straight due to cervical/jaw/muscle-related problems. Tried too many drugs to name.......even morphine. Nothing helps him.

6. Migraine with aura, checking in!
I am so glad they came out with Imitrex and like medications, before it was just misery.

Do you get them where you get numb, can't talk right, can't see right, and get pukey?

Hope the imitrex works for ya!

10. I get "neurologically weird" but not the same as you do
Very sensitive to light and sound, want to crawl off to bed with an icepack.

Just want to find a cool, dark room and sleep!

Hope you are feeling better.

7. I get them - but haven't tried Imitrex.
Had one last Saturday while I was out of town at a wedding. :banghead: Damn, it sucked. Do you get after-effects from your migraines? I swear - the next day, I had sharp, shooting pains in my head. Took me another 24 hours to feel completely normal.

I'm new to these things - I'm 25 & just started getting them last year. Does Imitrex work? I've actually never been diagnosed, but they have to be migraines.

I usually pop a couple Excedrin Tension Headache, rub some Bath & Body Works headache relief massage cream (peppermint scented - I highly recommend it) down the back of my neck, on my shoulders & on my temples. Then, I pull the curtains shut, turn off the lights, get into bed & put a hot washcloth over my eyes.

And if I can ... :boring:

8. Imitrex can be very expensive.
What sucks is that if you have a migraine, you'll pay whatever to get rid of it. There is Excedrin for migraines. Some times I'll take Tylox (Tylenol 4)and that helps. It helps me sleep which is key.

9. My meds are around $1000/month without insurance
The imitrex is now around $140 for 2 shots at my pharmacy. I can't tell you how many times I've been in excruciating pain, without insurance, and sat there figuring out if I should buy the shots and go to work or just stay home and suffer. The vicodin is cheaper but it makes me nauseated. The imitrex does work, although you have to get used to it.

If I sense a migraine coming on the best thing to take first is Aleve. Sometimes that takes care of it.

11. That is highway robbery.
You should never have to decide whether it is worth the cost to take it. The pain is so bad that you are almost left without a choice. It really pisses me off.

12. That is Glaxo
Several years ago I went to a medical conference in Boston for my job. Glaxo sponsored a party for the doctors at the Trade Center which included free dinner and drinks and music for 10,000 doctors from all over the world. That's where some of the money goes, sucking up to doctors so they will prescribe drugs made by your company.

15. Shooting pains might be cluster headaches
A website like Web MD might help you out. With my migraine, my head feels like it is being crushed, but I can't say I have shooting pains.

You should get it checked out.

16. Never heard of those. Thanks.

I only get the shooting pains after my migraine goes away. They're like lingering effects, or something. But, you're right - I definitely need to see a doc about it.

Thanks, again. :hi:

17. I hope you do! People with migraine are more likely to get strokes
And as to your question about Imitrex, most times it works for me. There are also many other medications. Some work better for certain types of migraines.

:)
