Best Line at a Wedding Reception (Hillbilly Uncle vs. minor-Mafioso Uncle):
I went to my cousins wedding in Chicago this weekend. Among the highlights was this precious moment--my hillbilly (Southern Indiana) Uncle greeted my ex-uncle (his ex-brother-in-law, son of a pretty big "Made Man"), 25 years after a VERY acrimonious divorce, with this beauty:

"Hey, Joe! Last time I saw you ya had a gun to my head!"

Joe: shrug. grin. handshake.

Top that if you can!

1. Too funny. Can't top with best, but here's my most recent worst.
50 something sister-in-law never married, finally gets married to high school boyfriend. Incredibly romantics, and mom-in-law been pushing her to get married for 40 something years. MIL knows nothing abut wedding before hand, big surprise. Ask MIL at reception, can you believe "susy" got married?! MIL's answer, "My feet hurt." WTF

2. Good one! Her feet probably hurt from all that
trying to kick her daughter toward the altar all these long years.

Probably a bit of a let-down for MIL--what's left to obsess about now?

The same above-ref's hillrod Uncle (who happens to be my fave and is one of the funniest men alive--) said the following to my hubby at our wedding reception 20 years ago: "Eric, you know I love ya, but since Elena's Dad is dead and all, I must tell you that if you EVER hurt my niece, I will kill you." He was serious.

BTW, Hubs loves this Uncle, too. What a family.

3. You are lucky. MIL called everyone in the family and told them
hubby and I were getting divorced because we sold our house and bought a new one. Started getting calls from family who were surprised when I answered the phone, that's how we found out. She's a, oh what's the word, bitch.

4. SHUT! UP! She is a real doozy!
Mine MIL told me at our wedding "By the way, since that ring was my son's Grandmothers, if you get divorced I want it back."

Truth is I love this woman with all my heart and she's been an EXCELLENT MIL, regardless of that little slip.

My own personal mMother sounds a lot like your MIL. You aren't my sister-in-law in Ardmore, PA, are you?

5. No unfortunately insanity is not limited to one family, it's everywhere.

6. This one just might be a contender.
After 10 minutes after I married my first husband, my father (who is really a great and open-minded guy) said, "Well, honey, this marriage might last 30 minutes or it might last 30 years. But I'm bettin' on the low end."

Dad was right.
