I need to stay out of GD and GD-Politics
Some of you know my story, I was supposed to be running against Paul Ryan in the 1st CD of Wisconsin. Well, I can't because I will lose my job, and my wife and I cannot afford to be without my paycheck. The problem is, if I go into those forums, I read about all of the good turning of the tide stuff. People who always voted republican, and now will only vote Democrat, etc., and I get very pissed that I cannot be part of it.

So, Lounge people, you have new permanent member, in buglsu9.

4. Hi bugslsu9.
I would remind you that that are lively forums and groups for areas you might be involved in; you don't have to see it as a straight choice between the Lounge and GD and GDP.

5. It just depresses me that there is a quiet revolution underway
that I was supposed to be a part of, and now, I won't be. I probably would not feel so bad if there was another strong candidate taking my place, but there isn't, so now there will be at least 2 more years of that douche-bag in office.

6. Does your local party have a support fund for this kind of thing?
It should.

8. The problem is, they can only give $2,100.00
That is the federal limit. I could take a salary from my campaign fund, but that would hamstring my fund raising efforts, because it would get out and discourage potential donors.

Believe me I have tried to think of everything, and I am pretty damn creative, but nothing is feasible.

10. And quitting your job would mean losing it forever?
You can't arrange a sabbatical or anything?

13. Nope
I work for family, and they are very much against me running. It is legal in Wisconsin to fire me for running for office.

Oh, did I mention that they are all republicans?

7. Welcome bugslsu9!
Keep in mind those great Beatles lyrics though... It's our
duty "to give the other feller hell."

;)

Go gettum!

9. I like giving them Hell
Just because I'm not running, doesn't mean I'm giving up. But, it is still just too fresh to check out the revolution I was supposed to help lead.

11. I understand.
It's time to take inventory.

But, that's still doing something.

15. But you CAN (and will) still be a part of it.
True, it sucks that you have an either-or situation. To me, at least, it appears that you can't run THIS time. Start planning for running NEXT time. Get out there and support whichever candidates you feel deserve your support. Who knows...you just might make a few close allies.

17. My wife told me it was this election or none until our kids are grown
We don't have kids yet, but she does not want us to have kids in school while I would be in office. It would be hard for them, given the recesses, and the traveling back and forth between Wisconsin and DC. So, there is not much I can do.

16. I'm forbidden from running as well.
When our party decided to run NO ONE for an open Congressional seat (which was drawn Republican, but still), I have half a thought to running just so SOMEONE would. Trouble is I work in government, and there's the pesky law which forbids me from running for office in a partisan election.

Oh well, someone else took up the cause as a write-in and got hammered.
