Road Trip/Travel Fever. Got it?
Mrs. V. and I went to the Outer Banks last weekend, and now all I want to do is go back, or go somewhere else, anywhere.

In July we're driving to Tennessee. We might go back to OBX in September, picking up her folks at the airport in Norfolk on the way. Then we're flying to California for Thanksgiving.

But I want to go NOW!!

Where do you want to go?

2. Add me to that list!
I'm getting so antsy! I have two trips to Boston in the works before the year is over with, and I wish I could go tomorrow! :( I think the weather has something to do with it? It's so beautiful and it's only natural to want to see other places during good weather. Especially if the company is wonderful, and in my case, it's the best!

I want to take about 30 days and just explore Europe, with no real plan. :)

9. It is easy!
These days you can learn by CD. Instead of the classes like I took you learn with a program on CD then go in and take a test. Once you do that you do a few pool sessions then an open water check. You can get your basic card by doing that. It took me a long while to really get comfortable since we live in freaking Kansas and could only go once a year but once I really got comfortable it became my very most favorite thing in the world to do. So relaxing, so beautiful.

There are many specialties you can learn and you can continue to advance to Master Diver and on up. It is really fun.

15. NO NO and NO!
Anyone and everyone can do it. Little kids and large adults. One of the men I used to dive with was a very large man. He was a very graceful diver. He lacked the stamina of some but took up underwater photography so he would just stay fairly close to the boat and take some of the most beautiful pictures I have ever seen. He did do some of the rather strenuous dives though, we all just kind of stuck together so if any one of us needed help we were there.

Do it if you have the desire. It is one of the most awesome experiences I have ever had.

I started w/ violin at age eight, I think, but quit. I don't remember why. (Played for two years. Being first chair in an elementary school orchestra may not seem like a big thing, but it was, oh, it was!)

Then began on the guitar at age twelve. Never quit.

Started choral singing at about fourteen. Off & on. Off now. Last stint was seven years back home w/ http://www.southcoastchorale.org -- lousy site, great group.

And I've picked up and fiddled (sorry) with the banjo.

My latest desire is to learn the mandolin.

:lalalalala: singing is my fave, though.

33. Wonderful
and thank you.

Can you teach me to sing? I was laughed out of my vocal lessons and I HAD to take them for my degree, it was so painful. I have a great sense of pitch but for some reason I just sound awful. It is the one and only thing I would actually change.

34. Nope. I can't teach anyone to sing.
I've never had lessons, just the group coaching that comes in a chorus. And I am WAY out of practice right now. But that doesn't stop me. :D

I don't have any formal music ed. Just fortunate to have an ear.

18. When you do make it to CA, avoid Los Angeles.
Nothing to see there, move along.

Stay south of L.A. -- Huntington, Newport, Laguna Beaches are all nice, getting "richer" the farther south you go -- and San Diego is fantastic, of course. The souther the better.

Stay north of L.A., starting with Santa Barbara. Sublime.

Monterey Bay is heaven on earth, I've heard. Haven't been there myself, though.

If you go inland, head to the mountains. Mt. Palomar in S.D. County is nice.

She lived in Orange County, then she moved to "the desert." I have no idea where that is, but I think it's south.

Monterey Bay is on my very short list of places to go.

Yes, it's in the southeast. In fact, most of the southern third of the state is desert. I wonder if she lives near Joshua Tree Nat'l Forest. There's a shortlist place, too.

You come to central Texas, I'll go to Florida. The hills out west of Austin are very sketchable, especially around Leakey and Kerville.

Just don't talk to anybody about politics once you get out of Austin or San Antonio...

32. Hi, GG!
That trip was terrific. We had such a good time; it was such a wrench to leave.

We ate at the Pelican Inn on Ocracoke I.; that was pretty nice. (We were actually seated at the Sargasso Tidewater restaurant on O.I., but the owner came to us before we could order to say their gas had been shut off. Weird.)

We also ate at restaurant at the head of a pier in Kill Devil Hills where they'll cook your catch. We didn't have a catch but their food was pretty good. Can't remember the name of the place. It was quite earthy. To get to the restaurant one has to walk through a bait & tackle shop. :)

We went to "Tale of the Whale" for dinner on Sunday night; that's on the way to Roanoke I., I think (at least it's on the way to Manteo). They were closed. Harrumph.

Next time we go -- and it might be September! -- we'll try the Froggy Dog.

:hi:

40. Eternally I have road trip/travel fever!
This summer I'm leaving from Dubai to spend a few days in London and a couple of weeks first in Florida and then in Oklahoma. After several months of no real road trips, last week I was thrilled to go to the mountians of the UAE, passing through some of Oman on the way.

But I always want more. Where I live people are always flying off to Thailand, Egypt, Singapore, Malaysia, etc., all places I want to go and haven't been. Some time next year we plan on going to Egypt, and I can't wait!
