Poll question: Is It Fair To Pick On Laura Bush?
I mean, to me, the only thing the woman did wrong was marry Bush. And you can fault a lot of women for getting hitched to a terrible, horrible man.

But she was a Democrat before she got married.
She likes to teach kids to read.
She's probably a very nice person.

Is it fair to pick on her, especially when she's not a Hillary-type first lady who wants to involve herself in her husband's policies.

She's not part of the BFEE - she just married into it.

Maybe we should cut her some slack and be nice to her?

Maybe?

Edited on Mon Oct-27-03 02:16 PM by VermontDem2004
As long as it isn't rudiculous such as "Laura's pants don't fit" but when it is something like "She killed her fiance" then I say hell yeah!!!

2. Nobody with a conscience
could not not be involved when your husband is insane. She's accessory and totally open to accusations of being Stepford.

3. I used to think it was not fair... until I met her!!!
I was (un)fortunate enough to be working tables at a fundraiser where Laura was scheduled to speak (hey, you gotta make money, right?). Laura went on and on about how Dubya is "The BEST PRESIDENT EVER!" in a saccharine Stepford voice.
The fact that she'll lie her robotic face off to get fundraising dollars for her beloved Georgie, makes her fair play in my book.

4. If (perish the thought!) I ever was fool enough to marry a Republican
I would NOT change my politics to suit him.

20. Exactly, greataunt.
You took the words right out of my mouth. I'll cut her no slack because she used to be a Democrat.

5. I know one thing...you don't want to get Laura mad...
When she's behind the wheel of a car.

Sorry, maybe that was uncalled for.

Can we still make fun of Barbara "The Enforcer" Bush?

6. Picking on her appearance is a cheap shot.
Same for anyone's appearance.

Save it for things she does, not whether her pants fit.

11. I almost agree with that
I want her to wear short sleeves so I can see her arms .
It creeps me out that her arms are always completely
covered .

Crawford Texas middle of Aug ...Laura in long sleeves

Walking in the summer in D.C. with bushey and 2 friends
in shorts and short sleeves ....Laura in shorts and long

9. Damn right you can ...
When Laura was a teenager, she drove thru and intersection and hit a car; her boyfriend was in the car she hit and he died. Because of her age, the record was sealed and no charges were brought.

If the same thing happened to Hillary, do you honestly think rush, et al. would NOT bring this up every day and want to why no one asks her about this at every press event?

Nuff sed.

22. Nevermind you are right
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Details in a 1963 accident report say that Laura Bush, then 17, ran a stop sign in the Texas crash that killed a friend in another car. The report, adding information to previous reports of the crash, was released to The Associated Press on Wednesday.

Mrs. Bush now is the wife of Republican presidential nominee-to-be George W. Bush, the Texas governor.

''It was a very tragic accident that deeply affected the families and was very painful for all involved, including the community at large,'' said Mrs. Bush's spokesman, Andrew Malcolm. ''To this day, Mrs. Bush remains unable to talk about it.''

She did say in March, when asked at a campaign stop about the crash, ''I know this as an adult, and even more as a parent, it was crushing ... for the family involved and for me as well.''

There had been published accounts of the accident, but city officials had declined to release the records because those involved were under 18. The police report was released Wednesday in response to an open-records request that was submitted to Midland officials in March.

According to the two-page accident report, Laura Welch was driving her Chevrolet sedan on a clear night shortly after 8 p.m. on Nov. 6, 1963, when she drove into an intersection and struck a Corvair sedan driven by 17-year-old Michael Douglas.

There were no charges brought foward.

13. Fair? Who gives a sh*t about fair?
Were the repukes fair to Hillary and Chelsea? Did they ever stop for one second to think to themselves, 'Maybe this isn't a good idea.'? Hell, no! Calling Chelsea 'the White House dog' was about as low as a human being can get. Playing the same game with Pickles is justified payback, AFAIC. Anyway, I'm sick of that grinning, vacant Stepford-wife face of hers, and those patented Republican wife pantsuits she wears. I don't give a rat's ass who she read to before she got married; She hitched herself to a thundering, anti-intellectual barf-brain. What does that make her?

14. She lost all my sympathy when she disinvited poets to the White House
She isn't stupid, she just chooses to act that way...like a bejillion conservative fundy females who lack the guts to stand up for themselves.

She's not ignorant to the criminal activity that's been going on since before Dumbya's White House occupation. If she had an ounce of integrity, she'd divorce the family and expose them for the crime syndicate that they are.

That said, I guess it would be scary to do the right thing when you know your life may end as a result.

I have to agree with Mac56 on cheap appearance shots, though I confess that I've been guilty of my share. That's the kind of thing the repigs did to Hillary and Chelsea. Tempting as it is to return the insults, it only serves to make democrats
look as stupid as the Limbaughites.

She's a role model for those women who keep running down their husbands. Too bad she got the wrong target.

21. She's in a position to make positive statements
About issues... even design statements. I've debated with myself over the shots people take at her outfits (myself included) but I've decided that since she's in a position to afford the best she should use this opportunity to foster American designers and showcase their talent. When she choses badly it reflects on all of us. For that reason I think she's fair game.

And to be honest, I used to comment on Hillary and Babs (a lot!) and even Roslyn. When in the public spotlight like a First Lady is, she should always look her best.

On the other hand, so should the President. This isn't a ladies only issue.

23. Party of Personal Responsibility
she could've chose to have left Bush's lying, cheating, thieving ass long ago - no, she stuck around. She killed her boyfriend and 40 years later is conveniently too broke up to talk about it (think that would've washed for Hillary?) and the worst - she is the parent of the Bush twins and she gets to answer to all that.
