Puke! I reek of cheap, shitty cigarettes.
:puke:

I have a headache, and feel like shit. And I stink. Badly.

Sometimes it sucks having a good friend that chainsmokes the cheapest brands he can find - unless you never want to visit them. :(

2. As a smoker of the cheapest cigarettes I can find,
I apologize on behalf of smokers of cheap cigarettes.
At least it's getting warm and we can open the windows.

4. Cheap smokes are the WORST.
I quit smoking about 4 months ago - but his house has bothered me long before then. Cigarettes still don't bother me since I've quit smoking - except for his. Jesus - they're nasty!

Another nasty one - not cheap - is Winston! I lived with a man that smoked those when I was 17. Unbelievably bad - and our apartment smelled so horribly.

5. I understand.
It's very difficult for smokers to defend themselves. I know I stink up my house and spread poisons.
I feel horrible.
I'm very addicted. You know this shit is harder to kick than heroin, right?
I try to mitigate my crime by buying the cheapest smokes. Even those are expensive.

6. Well- I smoked since I was 14
(almost 33 now) and my house never reeked like that! Other smokers I know don't either. Truly, it stings my eyes and makes my throat close up.

Do I KNOW the shit is harder to kick than heroin? Do I KNOW? Yes!! If not for Zyban - I'd be chainsmoking right now as I type this! :)

7. Zyban works?
Edited on Sun May-22-05 02:56 AM by evlbstrd
I've been really disappointed with patches, gums and stuff.
And maybe there's something else in your friends place that makes it smell. Fabrics can really hold them.

edit for spelling dammit.

8. It's definitely the smokes.
Definitely.

Zyban does MORE than work - it's truly the magic little pill. This coming from a girl that took it to humor her doctor (all while rolling my eyes) and didn't really *want* to quit.

It's bizarre stuff - it goes beyond taking the craving away and actually removes the mere THOUGHT of cigarettes from your daily life.

9. I've also smoked since age 14.
My mother died of lung cancer. And I'm 49 years old. If Zyban works as you say, I'm going for it.Thanks for your thread.

10. Scary!
I'm so sorry about your mother.

My grandmother had lung cancer too - but she lucked out big time. Only a spot the size of a nickel, and they got it out easily.

A couple of things - if your insurance (if you HAVE insurance) won't pay for stop smoking aids - make sure they prescribe you Wellbutrin. Same exact thing - but Wellbutrin's what they call it when they prescribe it for depression instead of smoking.

Also - you may experience some side effects. I have HEARD of people having really nasty side effects - but most everyone I know has only experienced very minor ones. Mine included massive dry mouth - especially during the first 2 weeks. I also felt a very subtle "oddness" - but that completely passed after about 2 weeks as well. If you get minor side effects like I did - stick it out! They go away.

I also went on Zyban 3 times before I actually quit for good. The first time right when I quit I met a man that smoked more than I did - and since we became joined at the hip from the first moment we met - I resumed smoking and quit the Zyban. The second time, I started taking it again - then a bunch of disruptive shit came up in my life. I threw in the towel before I really got going with it. The 3rd time was the kicker! I haven't taken Zyban in a couple of months now - and I'm fine! I can be around smokers and everything!

It is easier if you can NOT be around smokers until you're solid in your lack of desire to smoke though.

Maybe the side effects will have other benefits for me? But I definitely have to quit smoking.
Sorry about your friends smokes stinking. Can you convince him to buy American Spirit? They're sold my American Indians, and are marketed as a more pure cigarette.

edit for spelling dammit.

12. Not sure.
He opened up a carton of Doral's when I was there... so I assume that's one he's smoking. I think I've seen him smoke other stuff too, though. Must be whatever's cheapest.

If it bothers ME that much - it must truly repel other people. I'm pretty damned tolerant.

Maybe I'll just start buying cartons of cigarettes for him. Lady's choice!

13. That's a pretty expensive habit to support, as you know.
But if it means that much to you, maybe buy him the first carton, and take it from there. Or give him some Wellbutrin!

14. I need to quit, too
And I smoke cheap cigarettes, but they are good ones- Kentucky's Best or American Spirit ( I buy the loose tobacco and roll it myself.) I HATE the cig after smell as well - even with expensive cigs.

Kudos to you for quitting. And tell your friend to open a window and air the place out once in a while. Course, there's nothing a smoker hates worse than a nagging ex-smoker friend! But I know you'll be nice about it.

I suppose we all have our poison. But cigs are a habit worth quitting so I'm proud of you. I would need to get FAR AWAY from everyone if I quit, because I become a very unhappy person. And I can't take many of the meds because they don't jibe with my brain chemistry. But someday I hope to be as successful as you putting the nicotine habit away. Thanks for all your advice and sorry about your new odor.

Phew! I smell you from here! ;)

15. Beotch.
:hi:

Damn - I DO miss you when you're away, woman! ;)

The smell of cigarettes REALLY doesn't bother me generally. I think I'm some kind of freak, too - as everyone says when they quit the smell of smokes make them want to vomit. It's actually pleasant to me. Except for the nasty ones. :puke:

Don't be proud of me for quitting. It was a matter of the miracles of modern medicine - no effort involved on my part whatsoever.

17. Well, you made a decision to do it
and that takes effort and motivation. So there. I will be proud if I want to, Freak!

Cigarettes do reek, though. And they cost too much and they ruin our health and burn things and make a big ashy mess. I'm sick of smoking, but I enjoy it as well.

So I apologize, as a smoker, for our filthy habit.

I always say I resumed smoking after having babies because a cigarette was the only thing I could manage to finish when I had a houseful of kids. ;) But I feel like I set a terrible example for my kids and I should quit.

Someday I will, i hope. It's good to hear when someone else is successful at it without killing anyone!!!!:hi:

16. another reason for me to move. good cigs, 1/2 the price.
japan has vending machines selling good cigarettes at 1/2 the cost of what i have to pay here in california. roughly $2.70 for a pack of good cigs, whereas $6 for a pack of cigs here.

i'm a stress/social smoker, so if i'm going to buy stuff i'm gonna ante up the extra money and get good stuff. but paying close to $8 or $10 starts to really hurt, so i stick closer to $6 packs.

18. Geez! $6 a pack!!!!!
That was the going rate in the UK in '97. I can't imagine you pay that in the US. The most I pay is $2.19. There is one brand I buy for 1.20. Not too bad. Some cheap cigs are like smoking wood chips, so I try to find the more natural brands ( ha!) like Skydancer.

American Spirit loose tobacco ( with 50 free rolling papers!!!!!) is $3.19 at the discount tobacco shop. They must have some heavy taxation in CA. I would REALLY be too poor to smoke out there!

Maybe I'll quit before then. HA!

But I promise I won't bring Winstons or Dorals. They gag me.

Man, the west coast smokers need a mortgage just to puff up! How much is a bic? $5?

Geez, Louise....:smoke:

25. oh lighters are cheap. but, yes, the taxes are stupid high.
i hear it is more in NY, NY. and now i'm starting to see some smuggled cigs around here. supposedly it's becoming a big problem here. well, duh, tax the product making it double the original cost you're gonna get crime.

heh, when people bitch at me about paying too much in taxes and not wanting to pay for so-n-so's road, school, water, etc. i just say 'shut the hell up, you don't smoke, i gotta pay for all your asses, and i have to put up with your whining to boot.'

22. What sucks is they usually can't smell that they stink.
My mom is convinced that she doesn't stink. And she thinks I'm just being a bitch when I say that I hate reaking. It's sad. Anyway, I think it's nasty when people smoke in their house. Smoke outside. A friend of mine sent me a website yesterday that I thought was interesting. http://www.dontpassgas.com It's about second hands smoke. There's a part about how toxins get into the carpet and curtains and furniture and it's dangerous even if the person isn't smoking.
