Poll question: Best Style Of Facial Hair
I've juggled my facial hair a bit over the years, basically jumping back and forth between a goatee and being clean-shaven.

I can't decide on what I like better, and I get different comments from different people - so maybe you guys could get some sort of conscensus going.

What is the best type of facial hair for a guy to have?

2. Full Beard
I've had one for years now - saves lots of time formerly spent on shaving each morning. The occasional use of an electric trimmer keeps it looking good.

3. I've always thought this one was great
Just start with a full beard, and get rid of the under-chin stuff!

Don't see enough of it, ah reckon.

4. If you want the neat look, a vandyke is quit distinguished
and anything like a goat looks like a goat. Harrrummpph! Also, avoid the Amish look - full beard, no mustache.

5. I've always been a proponent of the no-tee...
that is, the full beard except with only the chin shaven. Think Chester A. Arthur or the bass player from Foghat.

I sported a no-tee for a while. I looked GOOD.

8. I have worn...
1) Full Beard
2) Goatee (with moustache)
3) Goatee (without moustache)
4) Moustache only
5) "Amish" (beard sans moustache)
6) "No-tee"
7) Clean shaven

I'll leave it up to eyesroll to tell you which looks the best.

The only facial-hairstyle I've never tried is the full sideburns and the (shudder) soul patch.

26. I think the goatee-sans-moustache was the worst...
Not because that look is inherently bad, but because you let it grow scarily long.

I think clean shaven works the best, although there was something to be said about the full beard.

Mutton chops! You need mutton chops!

it's like the "jazz dot", that little patch of hair between the lower lip and the chin (not a line)...also ick. i like a nice thick full beard on a man myself, not long, just thick.

10. Goatee + sideburns for me...
going back to having facial hair again after about six months' worth of clean-shaven. I usually keep it for a while, shave it off, let it grow back again...never grown a mustache or full beard...I don't really like mustaches and don't think I'd look righ with one, and, even at 26, there are a few small patches of relative hairlessness that make a full beard out of the question, still...

11. I went clean-shaven until I was thirty. I grew a moustache and goatee
to play a villain in a play I was doing. My wife liked it so much that she begged me to keep it, and I have. I like it.

BTW, the 'Amish' look is religious in nature. A beard is part of the covenant between God and a man, but a moustache is considered adornment, and is a symbol of the sin of vanity. Go figure.

13. Got a goatee now, so that's my vote...
but I had a mustache for a couple of years, and a full beard for 8 years. But then I shaved my head, so the full beard was out. This look works for me and the women I know. (And it's really easy!)

15. I look too old with a beard
and I get carded every time without one, so I tend to go clean shaven. It's really nice to get carded at 33! I'm usually older than the door guy. :)

16. I Went With Moustache
For those who have seen my pictures at the Chicago DU gathering, you know why. I've got a Saddam Hussein moustache. And yet, i've never been asked to step out of line for special review at the airports. Go figure.

24. Inserting my female preferences
Edited on Mon Oct-27-03 03:56 PM by populistmom
I think a man can look good in a variety of ways, depending on the man, but I have my preferences you might say. I like either clean shaven, mustache only, mustache and beard (neatly trimmed), or mustache and goatee (also neatly trimmed). I hate the foomanchoo/Hulk Hogan thing (ditto for the occasional man you see who thinks it's 1910 and waxed mustaches are all the rage), and I detest beards or goatees or any chin area facial hair without a mustache (it totally turns me off making me think of Amish men or Abe Lincoln).
I used to like clean shaven when I was very young, but now I think some facial hair is kind of attractive. My husband has had a mustache and goatee for several years now and occasionally, he shave it all off (like he did yesterday to be in proper costume for a Halloween party we went to), but then I think he looks goofy and less manly. Not really I suppose, but I guess I'm used to it now.

31. I really like goatees+moustache
My husband cannot wear facial hair to work, so I have to make do with the little two week one he will grow for me each year. I don't care for soul patches, they look as though you forgot a spot.
