I recognized almost nobody on GD, GD Politics and BN tonight...

I haven't posted here in quite awhile but I was amazed tonight when I scanned the other forums and found only one or two names that I recognized. While there are alot of new "faces" in the Lounge, it is still a pretty familiar crowd. So why the turnover on the other forums?

1. So many flame wars and much nastiness in GD these days, so

a lot of us who've been here awhile end up spending most of our time hanging out in the lounge, and only spending short amounts of time in the more toxic forums. It's more relaxing here--though even the lounge is not quite as safe as it used to be. Talk to your son--he'll tell you all about it.

(Edited to add: some regulars have been tombstoned; some trolls outed as well.)

Haven't seen you in a long time; how're you doing? I hope start coming around more often again. :hi:

2. I'm not sure it's all turnover, Raven.

Since last we saw you, we also had a name-change amnesty in which long-time posters were given the chance to change their monikers and still keep their post counts. A lot of those 'high post-count' newbies are actually re-Christened oldbies. So to speak.

4. I did! This week actually...

the kitchen that I replaced was about 60 years old. The new one is modest but I feel like I'm living at the Ritz! I also had the floors sanded...they were douglas fir covered with layers and layers of crud. They came out absolutely beautiful...I guess all the crud saved the wood.

I'll try to keep in better touch from now on.

Do you have room service? That's one way you can tell for sure whether or not you're in the Ritz.

Douglas Fir - are they native to your part of the world? They're everywhere out here. I just picture New England with deciduous trees.

GD, GD Politics and LBN move so fast now, or they get so mean, it takes a thick skin and a tight grip to hang out there. Lately, it doesn't seem worth the investment to me. I know I can be as mean as anyone, but I can't keep it up post after post after post like too many people here do. At the end of the day I want to shake hands with my opponents, and say "well fought, I'll buy you a beer."

I think some of the high posting regulars who are now gone ( such as keph :cry: and nostamj :cry: ) were moderating influences; they were the shock absorbers of this place. Now we speed along recklessly with the wheels hardly touching the ground, and people are falling off.

Again, good to see you, but gotta go...
