WTF do I have to do to get some attention around here, be JimmyJazz?
I come back from traveling to Rapid City, SD, for my job interview, to find an email offering me the position. I post about getting the job and get a grand total of TWO responses, one of which was because I kicked the thread, before it sank like the Titanic to the bottom of the cold, dark, thread ocean. I make some other posts and am totally ignored.

Here I am, getting ready to make the biggest move of my life, 1,500 miles away from home, friends, family, everything that's familiar, and having to leave my son behind with my parents for several months, and I'm getting no responses from my family here! Geezus, what do I have to do, be JimmyJazz? She'd post about something like watching the paint in her garden dry and you guys would be falling all over yourselves to keep her thread going!

Sheesh, and I thought you guys were above that kind of blatant favoritism! And after all the entertainment I've given you over the years, too. You better go get me a large pepperoni pizza and some Reese's Cups to make it up to me! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

8. Rapid City? I interviewed at the paper there once.
I have friends at Pine Ridge Rez, and at Keystone. It is an interesting but a wild frontier kinda place. Love to hear your impressions once you get there. The paper offered me the job, but the pay was lots less than I was making already, so...that was that.

Pop me a PM on it. Love to hear about it. If they had offered more $$$, I'd have jumped at it.

13. I lived in Aberdeen, SD, for five years as a
child and that's when we started vacationing in the Black Hills every year. I'm forty, so we've been going there for 35 years or so. So, I'm quite familiar with the area and have always loved it and wanted to live there and have a job there. And I'm also excited because it's working with the Sioux on reservations, something else I've always wanted to do. To me, it's the greatest, most beautiful area on earth.

Let me make up for my previous neglect of you! Come on, sit down in your favorite chair, and let me get you something to drink! What'll it be? Wine, beer, coffee, what? You let me know, and it's yours! How about I call for that pizza now, or do you want it later? Oh, and here's the Reese's Cups; I brought those from home...I love them too!

Hope you feel better now! Oh, and BTW, CONGRATULATIONS on that terrific new job! I really hope that you love it and have a very smooth transition...

18. It's a paralegal position with
a legal services agency that works with native americans on the South Dakota reservations. I know the most about the Lakota Sioux, and have always wanted to work on South Dakota reservations. As hard as it will be to leave home, friends and family and everything that's familiar, and to leave my son behind for awhile, to move 1,500 miles away. I've been waiting a long time for this opportunity, though, and I just cannot pass it up.

43. Thanks! And yes, it does seem
to me like it was karma, the way it happened. It was certainly the easiest time I've ever had getting a job. No fifty-page application to fill out, no 40-year background check where they even want your medical records, etc., etc. I had the interview on a Wednesday, got back home to Ohio on Monday night, and found an email already waiting for me offering me the position.

I've always wanted a job out there because I've always wanted to live out there. It's amazing how peaceful I feel about it, knowing me, I'd normally be panicking and backtracking by now, especially with that kind of life-changing move. It must have been meant to happen.

my son was born, he's now fourteen. He has Asperger's Syndrome, a type of high-functioning autism, so they've really been a help with him. My mom is actually pretty exited, and she's the one who insisted that I go out for the interview when I got the letter saying when it was scheduled.

and have always been and always will be a die-hard liberal. I've caught a lot of shit there for that, too. Everyone is perfectly clear that I'm a LIBERAL, you can especially check my Kent State arguments there. That doesn't mean I agree 100% with every single thing ever said here and unfortunately, we're not always permitted to express such disagreement here. I'd get into specifics, but there are certain subjects here that have been "shut down", so to speak, so I can't do that, then, can I?

Edited on Thu May-19-05 05:45 PM by DS1
You're not going to weasel your way out with the tired slippery slope argument. Aside from the odd cult, no community expects 100% agreement.

Obviously you can do whatever you want, yet why you'd expect a warm reception is beyond me.
