It sounds interesting. Mostly Indie, cult, foreign. I went thru my NetFlix history recently and released I had few mainstream movies - perhaps its time to check this out.

1. how does Netflix=Walmart?
Edited on Thu May-19-05 12:39 PM by indy_azcat
I thought they were competitors?

Edit: OK, I get it now. It's more of a Netflix gets all of Walmart's DVD customers and they agree to mutually advertise for each other.

2. Would people please *read* the articles?
Netflix does not now = WalMart. Netflix is taking over WalMart's online DVD rental business. Yes, Netflix customers will get WM ads. Still your choice if you shop at WM or not, and Netflix is taking business away from WM.

4. I've read the articles, thank you
I have no interest in waiting around to see how Walmrt will exert their influence on a service I have been happy with until now.

I really fail to understand how people on this board must personalize each and every post. :eyes:

6. Sorry, just frustration....

With lots of posts where people automatically jump on something without seeming to have read what it's about. I think it's great to promote an alternative site (looks pretty cool, thank you!), I just think it's misleading to start the post the way you did, with WalMart = Netflix.

8. I see the NetFlix venture with Walmart as horrible
Edited on Thu May-19-05 12:47 PM by Wickerman
from what I see it is not a buyout as many suggest. It is a co-marketing venture. The main thrust is to make sure that the Amazon Uk venture doesn't bleed to the US, and to crush Blockbuster. Limiting competition is not a good thing.

I won't be a part of it.

edit - you have changed your post, I see. Sorry you saw it as misleading. I stand by it. Lets talk in 2 or 3 years - I bet Walmart will either own Netflix outright or will be censoring what is sold as Walmart censors what what they distribute in their stores.

7. I don't want those ads - Netflix & Wal-Mart are now in partnership
and I like this greencine thing - most of my movies were independants so this site looks good to me!

3. Didn't Netflix buy out the WalMart Online DVD department?
I don't think they're joined at the hip.

9. No, they will assume the membership
but it is a co-marketing venture. It is designed, by the article, to limit competition by squeezing out Amazon before they come to the US and to further slow Blockbuster.com

10. Wow! Sounds cool!
I couldn't find the billing rates, but they even have mainstream films, and looks like way more cool stuff than Netflix...

17. Please explain
You have offered no context, read the thread - there is plenty of reason to make such a statement.

Either present argument against it, comment on the site suggested or hide the damn thread - its pretty simple, really.

18. Geeez
All this means is that Netflix has defeated Walmart in the online DVD rental Arena. They are giving up the business in exchange for very little.

And encouraging people to give up on a big Dem contributor because of this is so dumb it gives me a headache.

19. A collaboration is not a defeat
They are partners - NetFlix didn't outright buy Walmart's DVD divsion - it was exchanged for joint advertising and is an effort to snuff out all other competitors.

So sorry you got a headache - but I do understand, the idea of the Walmartization of Dem is a big concept to get one's mind around.

That an organization I used to trust is now collaborating with the Low Wages, Always folks is enough for me to explore other opportunities of how to spend my money - and, it appears that Cinegreen is going to be more to my liking anyway.

Peace
