Pregnant student defies graduation ban
MONTGOMERY, Alabama (AP) -- A pregnant student who was banned from graduation at her Roman Catholic high school announced her own name and walked across the stage anyway at the close of the program.

Alysha Cosby's decision prompted cheers and applause Tuesday from many of her fellow seniors at St. Jude Educational Institute.

But her mother and aunt were escorted out of the church by police after Cosby headed back to her seat.

"I can't believe something like this is happening in 2005," said her mother, Sheila Cosby. "My daughter has been through a lot and I am proud of her. She deserved to walk, and she did."

I guess a question to the school's administration is:
"Would you rather she have an abortion?"

3. My first post on DU ever.
It's sad what's happened to the Catholic Church. The inclusive values once held by it's faithful are now being actively destroyed from within by neo-con Pharisees. This isn't the Catholic Church I grew up with and was Confirmed to.

I sometimes wonder why I havn't converted. Maybe my faith's stronger than that. Maybe I feel a calling to cull my Church of the ignorance that has plauged it. Yes... My theological knowlege is frequently utilized to prove these hypocritts wrong, and I'd be in deriliction of duty to my God if I stopped now.

Their local archdiocies will be getting a letter from me, then.

5. hello
if you ever read any of my rants about the "church" it is not against those who -have-spoken out against the rot in the church. i remember when i was a kid sitting in the choir and my minister ,who just got back from south america, stated the "church" cared more about burning incense instead of feeding the poor" these words started me on the long road that i am on today. everytime i look at the native wall hanging he brought back for my mom,i remember what he said and what he meant.
