Wendy's finger suspect loses bid for lower bail

SAN JOSE, Calif. (Reuters) - A California court on Wednesday declined to lower the $500,000 bail for the woman whose claim of finding a human finger in a bowl of Wendy's chili drew nationwide attention and hurt the burger chain's sales.

Separately, a Pennsylvania woman said the severed finger belonged to her son, who gave it away to settle a $50 bet.

"Bail remains as set," said Santa Clara County Superior Court Judge Jerome Nadler at a pretrial hearing for Anna Ayala, the Las Vegas woman who in March said she had bitten into a human finger while eating chili at a Wendy's restaurant in San Jose, California.

Police believe Ayala attempted to pull a hoax on the third-largest U.S. hamburger chain. Ayala has said she did not plant the finger in her chili...
