....roaming the hot sands of the Southern Desert of Ro....
..I'm searching for a rare creature called the "ancient cyclops" who carries the "Ring of the Ancients" which I very much desire to have.
I attack the dry-bone skeleton standing in the sunken tower, who is rumored to be a placeholder for the ancient cyclops, I sick my pet on him, then cast the spell "expulse undead" and then my lifetap.
I smile as I watch my health meter suddenly shoot up to 92 percent as the dry-bone skeleton's life meter cascades toward zero as he stumbles back from repeated blows.
:nuke:
As he falls to the desert sand in a heap of bones, I kneel down to loot the corpse, pick up a bronze scimitar and some bone chips. (reagents that I need for my pet-creation spell)
As I stand up, I am shocked and surprised by what happens next...
"A Terrorantula bites you for 98 points of damage!" :o
followed immediately by...
"A Terrorantula hits you for 76 points of damage!" "A Terrorantula kicks you for 19 points of damage!" "You are stunned." :o
:wow:
Right away my pet goes to bat for me, loyal hombre that he is, as I turn around to catch my first glimpse of the aggressor. I lay my eyes on the hugest tarantula I have ever seen, standing no less than 20 feet tall, with legs at least 30 feet long, menacingly towering over me.
As I see huge chunks being violently rended from my health meter, I try to get my Lifetap spell to go off.
I will try and stay optimistic, but I now accept the fact that there is a very good chance I will not survive this encounter.
"You cannot cast spells while stunned!" "You cannot cast spells while stunned!" "You are no longer stunned." "You begin casting Lifedraw."
Maybe there is hope yet... B-)
"Your target resisted the Lifedraw spell!" x(
Right about now my pet crumbles in a heap on the ground and dies, as I back up about 10 feet. But, no matter how fast I run, I am no match for the Terrorantula's 30 foot strides.
"A Terrorantula bites you for 73 points of damage!" "You have been poisoned!"
I do a "/who" and see that I am the only person in Southern Ro at the time. There will not be anybody coming to help me.
:scared:
"I need to get the hell out of here!" I thought. I try to cast my "Gate" spell as blow after devastating blow strikes my small Dark Elf physique. The augmented armor and equipment I hold so dear now seems to be only delaying the inevitable.
"Insufficent mana to cast this spell."
Oh no...I'm in trouble man.
My last ditch effort.. I have only one chance to survive this unfortunate and unprovoked attack.
 Here goes...
I attempt to cast Feign Death, which requires less mana than Gate.
"Your spell fizzles!" "Your spell fizzles!" "Your spell fizzles!" "Insufficent mana to cast this spell."
Crap!! I wasted what little mana I had left on my spell fizzling when I really need it!
:banghead:
I did have my "Allure of Death" effect on, so I waited about one tick (6 seconds) and hit FD again. It's all or nothing now. If it fizzles again, I'm a goner. In my mind I begin planning for my upcoming corpse recovery.
"You begin casting Feign Death." "You die." <--- I am really still alive.. this is "feign death" remember..
I'll be a son-of-a-gun... the damn spell went off like it was supposed to. :-)
I fall to the ground.. motionless.. my breathing slows to a stop.
The monstrous tarantula stands over my apparently lifeless body. My health meter reads 4 percent. I see it go down to 3 and then 2 percent as the Terrorantula poison courses through my body.
:scared:
I'm shaken, but there is hope.
Finally, my hit point level stabilizes at 2 percent...
"The poison has run it's course." O8)
As I lay there, completely motionless, the Terrorantula, pleased with it's handiwork, meanders away. I scroll out to the wide view and wait a very long time before I venture to move. The Terrorantula is rumored to have an enormous frenzy radius, and if it were to discover my deception and find out I am still alive, it will surely come and finish the job in mere seconds.
:hide:
I wait, I wait... until the coast seems clear.
I stand up..
"You begin casting Gate." "LOADING, PLEASE WAIT..." "You have entered the Plane of Knowledge.
:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
I am safe.. I do not have the ring, but I live to fight another day.
:dunce:
