I need recommendations for a new broadband phone router!!
I have a Linksys model RT31P2, and have been having a devil of a time with it since I got it over a month ago (it's the one they give free when you sign up for Vonage). I have tried every configuration of my network, even dropping out my wireless router entirely and linking only one PC to the linksys router.

I have frequent conference calls during the day and whenever I am on the phone, my network connection slows to a crawl. Also, the phone sometimes drops the audio on the other side (they can't hear me), or on my side for seconds at a time.

I finally found a site in which a LOT of people are complaining of the same problems, and it seems I have no solution but to get a new one and then configure it for my Vonage account.

Any suggestions on a good broadband phone router? Anyone? :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

2. did you post in the computer help group?
I don't know if they'd know more than anyone else on this topic, but at least the thread wouldn't disappear as quickly.

3. doesn't the vonage site recommend hardware?
I dunno a damn thing about vonage - I'm one of the cell-phone-exclusive brain cancer people.

7. Yeah, they recommend this piece of shit.
And apparently a lot of customers are having a HARD time getting them replaced. Sounds like they may have had a load of bad ones they're giving out to customers. Idiots.

5. The ONLY problem I've had is that my Airport card sometimes tries
to access the Internet through the Linksys router (silly Airport card!). I simply pull down the menu and redirect it to the Airport router.

No problems on the phone end whatsoever.

My connection goes wall--> ISP cable modem-->Airport router-->Linksys router-->phone and fax.

It's a mess of wires, but for half price off my phone bill and a dedicated fax line, I'm happy. :-)

9. Mine's the same basically...
wall-->ISP cable modem-->Netgear wireless router-->linksys router-->phone

with the computers coming off the wireless router

I've also switched the configuration to put the linksys router between the cable modem and the wireless, as well as completely removing the wireless router and plugging the PCs directly into the ports on the linksys router. Removing the wireless router was actually the WORST configuration.

Driving me NUTS!
