WTF...Academy of Country Music Awards names Cheney star of the year?

OH...I'm sorry...it was Kenney CHESNEY.

Whew! I was worried for a moment.

A week after scoring a new missus in the form of Rene Zellweger, the country star was named Entertainer of the Year Tuesday night at the 40th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards.

Despite the intense interest in the singer's career since his surprise marriage, he remained aw-shucks humble onstage as he accepted the award.

"I go on stage every night at 9:15, but our show starts at 2:30 in the afternoon because all the fans are out there in the parking lot, partying and got our music cranked up. And I want to thank ya'll," said Chesney, who was wearing a new wedding band to go with his ever-present black Stetson.

Chesney, who also won Entertainer of the Year honors in November at country music's other big shindig, the CMAs, said his new wife was working on a movie and unable to attend the ceremony. But that didn't stop tabloids from dispatching writers and paparazzi to the Las Vegas-based event--a new development for the Academy of Country Music Awards.

2. He's been around for a few years.

His past several singles have all been about hanging out, surfing and drinking beer in the Caribbean. Bad, warmed over Jimmy Buffet crap. 95% of Nashvillians think he's a complete ass. I hope his days as a star are numbered.

3. My family's from Texas.
He's been around for some time now. Just do a google search on him. He's actually pretty talented. Don't know his personal politics, probably hasn't wanted to kill sales on any end of the spectrum.

4. That boy ain't bad at all
He's a little older than he looks, his music is pretty good (but as of yet, not earth-shaking), and he's never given the impression of being a Neiman-Marcus Cowboy, like old Toby Keith is.

If he married Renee Zellweger, I have to assume he's at least a little left of center AND able to comport himself well around women, since Renee doesn't take any shit from anyone and has tangled with a couple of right-wingers in the past couple years.

He's had a pretty good year so far. I'm sure we'll see how it all goes.

So, does anyone know what's happening in the Michael Jackson case today? :)

5. yes and no
he's a "hat act," but he has a great organization and has managed to become a very focused performer. He's one of the few in Nashville with a distinctive--and within the absurdly narrow confines of what is allowed in Nashville these days--a unique persona.
