Rock the Casbah!
Rock The Casbah

The Clash

Now the king told the boogie men
You have to let that raga drop
The oil down the desert way
Has been shakin' to the top
The shiek he drove his Cadillac
He went a' cruisnin' down the ville
The muezzin was a' standing
On the radiator grille

The shareef don't like it
Rockin' the Casbah
Rock the Casbah
The shareef don't like it
Rocking the Casbah
Rock the Casbah

By order of the prophet
We ban that boogie sounds
Degenerate the faithful
With that craazy Casbah sound
But the Bedouin they brought out
The electric camel drum
The local guitar picker
Got his guitar picking thumb
As soon as the shareef
Had cleared the square
They began to wail

The shareef don't like it
Rocking the Casbah
Rock the Casbah
The shareef don't like it
Rocking the Casbah
Rock the Casbah

Now over at the temple
Oh, they really pack 'em in
The in crowd say it's cool
To dig this chanting thing
But as the wind changed direction
And the temple band took five
The crowd caught a wiff
Of that crazy Casbah jive

The shareef don't like it
Rocking the Casbah
Rock the Casbah
The shareef don't like it
Rocking the Casbah
Rock the Casbah

The king called up his jet fighters
He said, you better earn your pay
Drop your bombs between the minarets
Down the Casbah way

As soon as the shareef was
Chauffeured outta there
The jet pilots tuned to
The cockpit radio blare
As soon as the shareef was
Outta their hair
The jet pilots wailed

The shareef don't like it
Rocking the Casbah
Rock the Casbah
The shareef don't like it
Rocking the Casbah
Rock the Casbah

The shareef don't like it
(He thinks it's not kosher)
Rocking the Casbah
Rock the Casbah
The shareef don't like it
(Fundamentally he can't take it)
Rocking the Casbah
Rock the Casbah
The shareef don't like it
(You know he really hates it)
Rocking the Casbah
Rock the Casbah!

3. Not the Who, silly. The Clash!
A band that was definitely inspired by the Who, however. Loved those guys back in the day.

6. The greatest bass line. (I never could understand the lyrics)
My favorite Clash song.

I actually like the extended re-mix version with almost no vocals, better than the original.

9. i never paid much attention to the lyrics before
i always just accepted it as one The Clash's pointless poppy songs, of course as opposed to the rest of their music.

i suppose next someone will tell me there is deep meaning to "sould i stay or should i go"?

11. Yeah, that Joe - deep as a bird bath, huh? I mean really - take this
shallow piece of ca-ca where he writes about the overthrow of the Chilean government by the CIA!

****

As every cell in Chile will tell
The cries of the tortured men
Remember Allende, and the days before,
Before the army came
Please remember Victor Jara,
In the Santiago Stadium,
Es verdad - those Washington Bullets again

****

13. hey, i was serious when i said as opposed to the rest of their stuff.
i wasn't being ignorant, i don't think. i've just seen these two particular songs as Clash's foray into the pop market, in contrast to their usual fare.
