but loved it.
This was quite an interesting day. I ate at the Scottsdale Culinary Institute/L'Ecole today. What a fantastic lunch. The dining area was serene with fresh flowers on each table, quiet music, cloth tablecloth and cloth napkins and a very friendly atmosphere Our waiter goofed (guess he is very new) because he forgot a couple of courses, but that was okay because our table received a significant discount. Let me tell you about the lunch if I can explain it correctly, food was not only rated in taste but in food presentation. We started off with an appetizer, a lobster roll looked like a pink sausage but tasted delicious! There was a tiny bit of two sauces scattered around the plate. Then we had a choice of salad or soup, I selected the soup, a seafood gaspacho cold soup. This was different as I expected chunks of tomatoes, but when they brought the soup to us, there was a pile in the middle of the bowl with seafood, onions, red and white onions, cucumbers, and peppers than the waiter poured a liquid in the bowl. Couldn't quite make out what was in the liquid but sure it was a fish stock perhaps with a touch and very little touch of tomato base. The ladies who ordered salads thought they were really delicious too. The next thing, bread my downfall, not just served with real butter, but also a herb garlic butter. I love bread, could have made the bread and herb-garlic butter a meal. There was something next which we did not receive but didn't know we missed until the end The next was the main entree, a choice between some type of tuna , but since I really don't like tuna except from the can I ordered the veal rib eye. Oh, this was just delicious! The veal had very little fat, cooked to perfection and very tender served with something that looked like spinach, but wasn't spinach, a little more chewy and potatoes au gratin. The potatoes au gratin tasted more like scalloped potatoes with with a wee bit of cheese. There was another serving but we did not receive this it was ravioli which appeared to be deep fried, the stuffing was filled with a maybe a Ramano cheese, did not care for this, first because it was deep fried and the other because it tasted very salty. As I may have mentioned before I'm very sensitive to the taste of salt. That is why I cannot eat most frozen dinners. Dessert was interesting and beautiful. We had three choice, one was a Mexican pudding which I did not order because most Mexican desserts are too sweet for me. It looked like a custard. The next choice was a chocolate dish, not fond of chocolate, the other was a fruit bowl which I ordered, filled with raspberries, strawberries and blackberries with a light whip cream topping in a homemade kind of like a waffle bowl. I felt like a very poor person eating in a very rich restaurant. Enjoyed every minute of it.
I also felt like I was participating in a Food TV- the Iron Chef presentation.
