Poll question: Should George Lucas have killed off Jar Jar Binks?
I was just reading an article on the new Star Wars. It talked about the "unfortunate incident" involving Jar Jar Binks being in the first two movies. Apparently he's in this movie, too, but he doesn't talk. I don't think they kill him. Maybe they should have, though.

I couldn't help but laugh out loud thinking about Jar Jar and how he "RUINED!!" Episode I. I remember a couple of my friends being really upset about him.

Even though I laugh at them and I've never been a Star Wars fan, I can see what they're talking about. It's like the new Coke. What the hell was Lucas thinking putting that clown in there? I laugh at that too.

The whole thing's funny.

1. LucASS should create a time machine, go back in time and...
prevent himself from fucking up the greatest trilogy of all-time with his little "Special Edition" modifications. He should also ram a red-hot poker up his arse when he senses the first inclination of creating Jar Jar Binks and for casting Jake Lloyd and Hayden Christiansen (sp?) in the part of Anakin.

Use it.....

Totally agreed on the modifications, by the way. And the casting has sucked ass, too.

Really, I just don't like his movies. I suppose I'll see this one, though, just to see the references to ChimpCo.

8. Would you have stood up and cheered in the theater if
he had killed off Jar Jar? I keep imagining people doing that...the audience just erupting with joy as Jar Jar's being blown apart.

Or maybe they could have done one of those long, drawn out battlefield death scenes...

2. George Lucas should have sought employment as an actuary...
... or something. The original Star Wars was before my time, but I did see it later. Fell asleep during it, too.

So yeah, kill this JarJar Binks person. But don't stop there!

5. It reminds me of an episode of The Simpsons
called "Co-dependents Day". At the beginning of the episode - Homer, Bart and Lisa see a film called 'Cosmic Wars: The Gathering Shadow'.

There was a character in it called "JimJam Bonks" and there was scene like this:

Obi-wan finds JimJam knelt near his spacecraft

ObiWan: JimJam, where did my flight landing gear go?
JimJam: Messa sold it for sum' space-ganja!

15. is that the one...
... where this supposed blockbuster "Cosmic Wars" movie turns out to be a C-SPAN-like intergalactic meeting on codes and variances -- or something like that -- and Bart and Lisa leave the theatre deeply disgruntled?

Yeah, that was pretty good.

:D

21. Yes it was...
...Bart leaves the movie theatre remarking "I can't believe 'The Gathering Shadow' was referring to Galactic Senate redistricting."

14. If they'd scripted JarJar to say something other than "Meesa"
which just sounds too much like "Massa", there never would have been any flap about it. Still, someone at the editing desk should have realized what the reaction would be.

I like the character... He was amusing even when he was being annoying.

19. Many say he was a Jamaican characteristicized stupid CG idiot
He was comic relief, very infantile acting, with the physical motion/walking and talking characteristics making fun of Jamaican people. This is my take on it. I think he fit in Episode 1 very well since I hated this movie thought it was sooooooooooooooo stupid and wrongly cast and poorly acted and written and soooooooooooo overhandedly foreshadowing what Would Happen that he was just 1 more thing.

23. Thoughts on Jar-Jar...
While I absolutely despise Jar-Jar....

I think he was important for the first film.

Why you ask?

Because the overall "feel" of the films has been in an almost reverse order of the originals. Return of the Jedi had the Ewoks; while not nearly as annoying as the Gungans, they were pretty sugary-sweet.

In the second film Jar-Jar's total stupidity is invaluable, as without him, the Republic's army would not have been formed. Jar-Jar is a hero of the Empire. :D Attack of the Clones is also a parallel to Empire Strikes Back.

In Revenge of the Sith, he is just window dressing for continuity; who cares. Revenge also looks to be more like the original Star Wars, though the feel of it seems to be very dark.
