People get pretty defensive about it, I've found.

BUT on the plus side, I'm already teaching my daughter. She has a little email account that only a few people know the address to and one day she said "Oooo this is cute, I'm gonna send it to Shelby!" and I said NO WAY. I told her most people hate that and don't even start doing it. She said "Grandma does it."

I had to bite my tongue to keep from saying a few choice words about Grandma and how I had to BLOCK her email address from me a few months back.

I used to get this sort of crap from a friend and asked her to stop, and it was like I had showered her with dead rats. I think she thought she was genuinely being a "good person" by sending this stuff on; that opinion's so deranged I can't even begin to understand it, but there it is, and she's far from alone. I did ask politely, and usually she's so rational. But when it comes to schmaltzy chain emails ... I don't know, intellect bypass or something.

Forwarding a link to an interesting article to a friend isn't so bad, though; it's the group emails I loathe. Mrs Taxloss and I span each other with stupid pictures during the day, but that's just SO stuff.
