Honecker's bulletproof yacht up for sale

BERLIN - Former communist East German leader Erich Honecker's yacht, complete with bullet-proof glass and bugging devices in every cabin, has been put up for sale, a report said on Tuesday.

The 'Ostseeland', a 61 metre former East German minesweeper converted into the communist ruler's luxury vessel for tours on the Baltic Sea, is priced at EUR 500,000, said the tabloid newspaper Bild.

Among guests entertained on the ship was Cuban leader Fidel Castro, who was a frequent visitor to East Germany.

And it's 180 feet long. Compare that to the 104-foot Sequoia that the Bush boy wanted--they offered a couple million dollars for it, and the guy wouldn't take it.

You could take the Ostseeland, spend a couple million putting new machinery and electronics in it, and have yourself a damn nice small cruiser that would make you some serious cash. Restore the public spaces to their former grandeur and you'd have freepers lined up around the block to take "Victory Cruises" on the East German dictator's private yacht. (Naturally, you'd charge an arm and a leg for passage--nothing says you can't part a freeper from his money.)
