Coach Beaten Unconscious In Fight During Girls Rugby Match In N California
http://www.kotv.com/main/home/storiesNL.asp?whichpage=1&id=83324

A girls rugby coach was beaten until he was bloody and unconscious during a weekend match, and police are seeking criminal charges against as many as 10 people. ``I never saw them coming,'' said Craig Stewart, 55, who kicked in the head and face by another coach and parents during a game Saturday, according to witnesses and police.

The conflict began when referee Paul Berman, 42, ordered a spectator off the field. He was punched in the face three times by the brother of the coach of the Rohnert Park team, police Sgt. Art Sweeney said.

Stewart was taken to a hospital with cuts and a head injury. Berman was treated on the scene for a split lip. Stewart said his assistant coach, William Travis, suffered three broken ribs while attempting to protect him.

Police were still working on identifying everyone involved, some of whom fled the scene. No one had been arrested by Monday, Sweeney said.

2. Has anyone else noticed a general coarsening of the culture
since the Bush** oil war has been splatered over our TV screens 24/7/365? What does Joe Lieberman (D-??) have to say about that form of TV violence, I wonder?

We've even had refs attacked in the Land of Aloha (the Legislature kindly took time out to make it illegal)!

The "Malice at the Palace" in the NBA. Bench-clearing college "footbrawl" at Clemson vs. S.Carolina. Fundie mom rips arms off kid. Another school shooting (in Minn.) and so on ad nauseam. It seems like every day just gets gorier (on the mainland, anyway :-) ).

5. One year our school coaches gave parents rules of watching the game..
It was given to a bunch of us volleyball parents during a pre season parent/coach meeting..then she whispered to us that the warning was really "meant for the basketball parents" even though she had to read the statement to everyone at the various team meetings that night...she said it really quiet cuz the b-ball parents were in the gym getting talked to by THEIR team coach. I was suddenly pretty damn happy to be a vball parent/spectator. The most action we ever see is polite clapping and a few "awww, good try...that's OK, honey"...maybe a few yelps if the kids get a long volley going.
