Rolling Stones Tix For $906/Couple????? No.Fucking.Way.
The Rolling Stones play two Fenway Park concerts this summer, with premium seats priced at $453 apiece. To spend the night together with a band that cut its first single when Chuck Schilling (not Curt) played for the Red Sox? Sweet Virginia. A couple would have to pay $906 -- excluding drinks, dinner, and parking -- for a date with Mick and the boys. But if you try sometimes, for $906 you just might find you get what you . . . could really use? Below are some items you might consider.

6. A BBC reporter dared to ask them about money
and they refused to answer, saying the BBC was 'boring'.

In fact, the only time the band really got testy was when they were asked by a BBC reporter about leaving England and rehearsing in Canada for tax reasons.

"We love Canada, we would never rehearse there for tax reasons!" said Jagger.

When the same reporter responded: "How much is money driving you, how much is music driving you?" there was a chorus of boos from the crowd, which included Canadian model Linda Evangelista and Today anchor Matt Lauer.

"That's not a very popular question. We're going to pass on that silly question," said Jagger.

"You can have the money, pal!" added Richards. "Hey guys, that was from the Boring Broadcasting Corporation of England."

10. more people should ask them that
"why do you charge so much for tickets and merch if you are already loaded?"

nothing worse than a band that once espoused ideals of rebellion and anti-authority become as WASPy as the folks who can pay that much to see em

48. No, those seats will be filled by lottery or something.
The premium seats are the best in the house, hands down. On the last tour, in 2002, I paid $600 for seats by the B stage at an arena show. Best concert I can remember, and I've seen the Stones every tour since the mid 60's. The section (a very small section) I was in was surrounded by security and when they hit the B stage all the other fans ran up to in a mass. I was left alone and had the entire section to myself. The Stones were only 15 feet away from me and the sweat was flying off of them. Utterly amazing performance. And very well worth it.

64. Details are coming out rather sketchily
But, your paper might be right. Perhaps it's a lottery of the most expensive tickets, because I've yet to see those seats listed and I'm registered for presale seats, which is the only way to get the exceptional higher end seats. And every article about those onstage seats is just as confused about how it's going to be done (engineering wise) as I am.

<snip>
"Tickets for the Petco Park show will go on sale May 21 at 10 a.m. at Ticketmaster. They will cost $60, $99 and $160 each (plus service charges). A limited number of gold circle seats will be available at $400 each. Advance tickets went on sale yesterday to members of the band's fan club and to American Express credit card holders.

The tour's Onstage moniker stems from the fact that 400 seats will be built into the stage.

<snip>

"We never say, 'This is the last tour,' " Jagger said at yesterday's news conference. "We take each tour as it comes."

67. You have to join the fan club to have access to those seats
Or any of the really great seats. It's $100 at their website. You get an exclusive dvd, too. Having joined, you have first access to the best seats, before they go public. And before scalpers get them.

I bought my seats for the 2002 tour that way and it was a totally amazing concert. It was especially nice having a shitload of security within beckoning distance. And the guards were cute.

I have issues paying even $50 for a ticket. I'm not that old, and I still remember seeing huge bands (REM, Nirvana, etc) in the 80's and 90's for less than $10.00 .

12. I saw the Stones for a $10 ticket, first row balcony ....
in a 4,500 seat theater in Detroit. It was a Masonic Hall, with a balcony close to the stage. Great seats.

Of course, it was 1979.

They still really rock, they just haven't recorded any good new material in a very long time. They are an oldies act now, pretty much, but they are a good performance band.

The Stones are charging what they think the market will bear, but they have to finance their golden years, right?

No one is obligated to pay the price.

all three days at Woodstock in '69 was $18.00. I also saw the Who at the Fillmore with Chuck Berry and Albert King in'69 for $5.50 and those were the expensive seats. I think I saw the Stones in '72 for no more than $10.00 and I know I saw Cream for no more than $7.50 in '68.

18. I bought the $18.00 Woodstock tickets, too.
I saw Muddy Waters and BB King in 1970 for $3.50, then we snuck into the expensive $5.50 seats

I don't remember what I spent in '68 to see Janis Joplin, with opening act Blood, Sweat and Tears, but it was probably about the same.

Remember when records were $3.47 for years and years?

also toured with ten years after in '68 and I saw that for maybe $4.50. I saw the Allmans the closing weekend at the Fillmore Esat with J. Geils and Albert King. Couldn't have been more than $6.50. If you have ever heard the Whippin' POst from the final night at the Fillmore it is the best. That is ther show that "one way out" is from.

25. I lived in Ohio, the closest place was Cleveland Public Arena
and I was very envious of those who could go to the Fillmores, East or West. It was a major trip for us to go see the big bands.

That first Janis show was only about half full. Rock wasn't big time, yet. I also saw Led Zep there on their first tour, in 1970?

I saw the Jefferson Airplane in a converted movie theater in Cleveland, the loudest band ever. I was partially deaf for about a day.

2nd tour of the U.S. at the Singer Bowl in NY. I think it was the summer of '69. Could've been the summer of '70. I saw the Airplane 6 days after Kent State. It was pretty wild. I also marhed on Washimgton at the first big march in Oct.'69. Earl Scruggs played there. I bet most people didn't know Earl Scruggs was antiwar. Like I said in an earlier post I saw almost everyone. Stevie Wonder opened for the Stones in'72.

have always cared about their fans. I saw them last year for $50.00. In this age that is a great price. I've always thought they were one of the greatest bands in concert and I have seen all the legendary acts in their heyday including led zep, the who, Janis, the airplane, the allmans, cream, van morrison, the stones, Jethro Tull, almost everyone. These concerts were at places like the Fillmore East. Yes, the Dead have off nights but when they are good they are really good.

people in America who are not capitalists. They just don't stick it to their fans. Their tours were short and they didn't play these mega tours. I'm not knocking the Stones and they should get what the market bears. I saw the Stones 3 times and wished I saw them in'68 which I think is their greatest tour. I just don't want to see them in a stadium.

68. I infinitely prefer them in an arena
Edited on Mon May-16-05 04:46 PM by Atlas Mugged
The arena show in Toronto 2002 was a phenomenon. The Skydome concert, 2 days later, was a spectacular show, but the sound sucked, as you would expect, and there were too many drunken/stoned teenagers who were out for an event, any event. It was full of "tourists", too. On the other hand, the stage was fucking amazing.

The magic moment at the arena show came towards the end when they did their greatest hits bloc. I was watching the show, but decided to look around and see if anyone was packing up and leaving, as is typical at concerts as they get close to the end anymore. The lights were brighter around the arena for this set so I could actually see the crowd. Amazingly, you could see everyone on their feet transfixed by the performance. Since this is Toronto and the Stones always rehearse there for their tours the Stones are regarded as family. It was a genuinely affectionate moment and one I'll never forget. Also, since it was in the arena, this was more of the hardcore fan crowd, with very few "tourists" out merely because it was an event.

BTW, since I belong to a certain newsgroup of Toronto based Stones fans (with band insiders - for real), I get alerts well in advance of their surprise nightclub gigs. I made it to that, too. But that's a whole other story...... And, I might add, the much preferred venue.

I did get my picture in Life magazine, though, in the Woodstock issue. A group photo.

I remember spending Melanie's entire performance making a journey to and from the overflowing port-a-potties, trying not to step on anybody.

At the time my two favorite bands were the Who(had just saw them at the Fillmore) and the Airplane. Buy yhe rerelesaes of the Airplane albums on CD. You can get them from BMG for about $5.00 a piece. The remix's and additional songs are just great. The Airplane's music really holds up and for my money Grace was the greatest female rock singer of all time and besides not to bad to look at. The only women of the sixties that rivals her is Emma Peel.

I saw the Airplane at the Akron Rubber Bowl (no lie) preceeded by Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen. The local police managed to tear gas over a quarter of the audience by releasing the gas at the top of the stadium; several thousand were affected including us, emptying us out onto the athletic field in front of the stage.

So, the police arrested the Airplane for inciting a riot! The Airplane had no idea what was going on, of course. Typical Ohio justice.

She performed with the Stones once, too, doing "Tumbling Dice" which was a hit for her.

37. Way.
I'm paying it and looking forward to it.

FWIW, I'm a boring old fart who doesn't act his age, either.

ALL ticket prices are incredibly high for the gold circle seats, which is what you're refering to.

The average ticket price is in the 90s and a bit over. Which is typical. Bear in mind, The Eagles sold tickets for $300, too. And that was several years ago.

41. Metallica still hasn't recovered from the Napster incident
They came off as a bunch of whiny spoiled rich brats. While mp3 piracy is a real issue, they went about it the wrong way by attacking their own fans and had a big backlash against them for it.

45. The shows are selling out
NEW YORK, NY -- (May 16, 2005) - In a matter of a few hours the Rolling Stones sold out all tickets in Boston, Washington, D.C. Atlanta, Miami, Charlotte and Calgary. A second stadium show was added at Fenway Park, in Boston, on August 23rd to support the incredible demand and also sold out immediately.

And, for the person who made the comment that it's "the last tour", implying that the Stones themselves market their tours that way, nothing could be further from the truth; it's an urban myth. They have never, ever said that the current tour, from whenever, was the last. In fact, during this most recent press conference Jagger stated that it would be unfair to the fans to do that nasty trick for the sake of boosting ticket sales. Charlie blurted out that it was, jokingly (and he probably wishes is was since he has so many other projects), but it was quickly denied by Jagger & Richards - who have ALWAYS denied it. Now, The Who, The Eagles, Bowie and Cher, among many others, are constantly doing farewell tours, only to have it come and bite them in their collective asses when the bank account goes under 10 million.

53. Ticket prices start at $62
Which is average.

McCartney tickets are in the $279 range.

McCartney wrote 'Freedom' and supported the war.

The Stones wrote 'Highwire', a vehemently bitter take on the first Gulf War - and a damn fine song.

63. Jagger can't hit the high notes any more.

Yeah, I want to pay $458 to hear Jagger's weathered pipes spit out a crap version of "Monkey Man" like he did on "Live Licks."

With a couple of notable exceptions here and there, this band peaked on "Tattoo You"...24 effing years ago.

69. I shouldn't admit this, but...
I paid $400 for two tickets to U2. I chalk it up to laziness. I cannot be bothered to figure out when the tickets go on sale so I can speed dial Ticketmaster (which is usually at some totally inconvenient time in the middle of my work day) to maybe get through before they sell out, or I can only get some crap seat in the nosebleeds.

So, I used a "ticket agency". Apparently scalping is legal in New Jersey. They charged about twice the sale price and I got really good seats.

But I'd only spend that much for U2 or Bowie, I swear!!!
