Lyrics to songs you think you're the only one who knows about
Edited on Sun May-15-05 10:01 PM by Prisoner_Number_Six
or has heard of-- "B" side should-be hits from classic albums, in other words.

Something like this:

I guess nobody knew, the Barcelona Zoo
Has an albino monkey, that can trigger the mood
And provoke monkey motions
So when the shit flies high
Through the Barcelona sky
The crowd stands by, a cheering.

--How much should I wager no one will know this one? And what's YOUR favorite should-be hit's lyrics?

On edit: Looks like no one is guessing, so here are the full lyrics:

Violins
Golden Earring
(G.Kooymans/B.Hay)

And the classic way is still on play
Violins bitter sweet
String quartet, pass around the hat
You broke my heart, don't you hurt my head

After Violet and me, saw the Paganini movie
We took a walk around the block to digest
The grand finale
A street-music man with shades and cane
Played the fiddler insane
For a case load of spare change
And the smiles of people passing
Between morning paper sins and waves of violins
It said they found him dead
His bow had made him bad friends

Cold blooded, warm hearted violin
Hooked on high speed energy
Cold blooded, warm hearted violin
Cats gut pumpin' adrenalin
Warm blooded, cold hearted violins
See 'm live tonight in the city

And the classic way, still on play
Violins bitter sweet
String quartet, pass around the hat
You broke my heart, don't you hurt my head
I've gotta find a little peace of mind
Cause the real thing is a mean thing

I guess nobody knew, the Barcelona Zoo
Has an albino monkey, that can trigger the mood
And provoke monkey motions
So when the shit flies high
Through the Barcelona sky
The crowd stands by, a cheering

Cold blooded, warm hearted violin
Hooked on high speed energy
Cold blooded, warm hearted violin
Cats gut pumpin' adrenalin
Warm blooded, cold hearted violins
See them lives tonight in the cityI can hear 'm playin'
Kind a light 'n neat
All the gals 're swayin'
The guys are in for meat
It's all cute 'n rosy
Till the needle hits a crack
Listen to that screech repeatin'
Watch the flags go slack
Listen to that screech repeatin'
Watch the flags go slack

Note: First released on "To The Hilt"

You're Tearin' it apart,
So F*ck you.

You stepped on my ass
You're breakin' my glasses too
You won't drive my car, might be a star
I've had enough of you
I' goin' insane
There's no one to blame so f*ck you

Nilsson and Nilsson - from way before it was okay to swear in pop songs.

3. All I wanna do is have a good time
now I'm blue.

I love that song! And you're right--it was waaaaay before it was okay to swear in songs.

I miss Harry.

4. I was listening to him just yesterday
I always knew he was WAY ahead of his time. My favorite is "Jump Into The Fire". Fantastic percussion, and a bass track that will send you into another dimension.

2. "Thoughts of a Dying Atheist" by Muse
Eerie whispers
trapped beneath my pillow
won't let me sleep
your memories

and I know you're in this room
I'm sure I heard you sigh
Floating in between
where our worlds collide

scares the hell out of me
and the end is all I can see
and it scares the hell out of me
and the end is all I can see

and I know the moment's near
and there's nothing you can do
look through a faithless eye
are you afraid to die?

it scares the hell out of me
and the end is all I can see
and it scares the hell out of me
and the end is all I can see

It scares the hell out of me
and the end is all I can see
and it scares the hell out of me
and the end is all I can see

Not that nobody wouldn't know it, but it doesn't get any air time.

11. Me too
I have "Absolution" in my CD player right now and it's been there for the past few weeks. I'm going to have to get their other two discs.

5. She's Gone - Steelheart
She's gone,
Out of my life.
I was wrong,
I'm to blame,
I was so untrue.
I can't live without her love.

In my life
There's just an empty space.
All my dreams are lost,
I'm wasting away.
Forgive me, girl. (insert male screaming high-A above the treble staff)

Lady, won't you save me?
My heart belongs to you.
Lady, can you forgive me?
For all I've done to you.
Lady, oh, lady.

She's gone,
Out of my life.
Oh, she's gone.
I find it so hard to go on.
I really miss that girl, my love.

Come back into my arms.
I'm so alone,
I'm begging you,
I'm down on my knees.
Forgive me, girl.

Lady, oh, lady.
My heart belongs to you.
Lady, can you forgive me?
For all I've done to you

6. Bad - by Kirsty MacColl

I've been the token woman all my life
The token daughter and the token wife
Now I collected tokens one by one
'Til I've saved enough to buy a gun
Now you can't get even but you can get mad
And it's not funny no and it's not sad
It's just a feeling that I've always had
Oh Look out world I'm about to be bad
I want a brief encounter in a stolen car
A hand on my buttock in a Spanish bar
I want to meet the man who wants to go too far
For a token of my affection
I want to taste excitement
Smell the danger
Get swept off my feet by the perfect stranger
I want to try something that I've never had
Oh look out world I'm about to be bad
I've been an awful woman all my life
A dreadful daughter and a hopeless wife
And I've had my eye on that carving knife
Oh you've been lucky so far
I'm not crazy no I'm just mad
I don't want to be sorry
No I want to be glad
It's just a feeling inside that I have always had
So look out world I'm about to be bad

7. Teenage Immigrant Welfare Mothers on Drugs
By the Astin Lounge Lizards, who evidently did not like Newt's tactics back in the 90s nor the xenophobes taking over the national dialog For your reading pleasure, though I really suggest listening http://www.austinlizards.com/music.html

Teenage Immigrant Welfare Mothers on Drugs

It's been five years since we had a raise in pay
And they disallowed my business lunches today
Somebody must have changed the rules of the game
So we've found a convenient scapegoat we can blame

It's those teenage immigrant welfare mothers on drugs
(They're too lazy to work)
Teenage immigrant welfare mothers on drugs
(They're stealing our jobs)

Somebody ran this country deep into debt
I called up Congress, but nobody's called back yet
Sometimes I get so mad I can't think straight
We're looking for relief and it feels so great to hate

All those teenage immigrant welfare mothers on drugs
(They're on the Dole)
Teenage immigrant welfare mothers on drugs
(They're speaking espanol)

Who's to blame for the things we're so angry about?
Who's to blame for uprisings, downsizings, and the drought?
Who's to blame for the end of the good old days?
Who's to blame for that backwards-cap-wearing craze?

It's those teenage immigrant welfare mothers on drugs
(Let's build a thousand-mile fence)
Teenage immigrant welfare mothers on drugs
(It's just common sense)
Teenage immigrant welfare mothers on drugs
(Like the Berlin Wall)
Teenage immigrant welfare mothers on drugs
(Land mines and all!)
Teenage immigrant welfare mothers on drugs

8. One of my favorite lost oldies
The Association followed up their massive #1 balled "Cherish" with a sad, semi-psychedelic (with some cool Asian-sounding instrumentation) tune with the (somewhat ill-fitting, IMHO) title "Pandora's Golden Heebie-Jeebies." It stalled at #35, but it's one of my favorite forgotten Top 40 hits of the sixties.

"Pandora's Golden Heebie-Jeebies"
(Jules Alexander)

I have walked along the paths of dark and light
And I have seen the sunrise and I've seen the night
I've seen the calm before the storm and then the fight
And now I see the sparrows as they begin to fly
And all that's left for me to do
Is cry

I've had my view of happiness and my view of despair
I've cleaned out all the cobwebs and I've learned how to compare
I've seen all of the circles and I've had my last affair
And now I see the sparrows as they begin to fly
And all that's left for me to do
Is cry

Thinking that I was lost then finding the end to all beginnings
Gave to me the key made of lead and golden
Freeing locks, Pandora's boxes, devils are expended

And I'm finally free

And when all the tears are finally cried
And I am finally clean inside
The gentle winds will come and they will dry my mind
And I will see the sparrow that need no longer fly
And all that will be left for me to do
Is die

14. The Association was ahead of their time too
They had some seriously hard rock hits-- "Along Comes Mary" was always at the top of my list.

I think they as a group were seriously underappreciated.

17. I agree
They have some very good, underappreciated album tracks from throughout their career and a great forgotten album in their self-titled record from '69.

I think songs like "Cherish" (which I love, even if it is kinda saccharine) and "Windy" give a lot of people a distorted perception of the band. They incorporated everything from garage-rock to country to psychedelic music into their sound, and they did have a cool hard-rocking edge at times, like you mention. This style really comes out more on their live album.

9. The National Anthem of the Conch Republic
By Michael McCloud

I'd rather be here drinking a beer
Than freezing my ass off in the North.

The full lyrics are priceless. If you're ever here in Key West, go to Schooner Wharf Bar and hear Michael sing it in person.

12. Wintersleep - "Snowstorm"
And the hostess has been waiting
Use some time in rearranging
To keep her mind on something
Besides the lack of people coming
You pull up in hesitation
Is this the right location
You can hear some music playing
Your hand knocks in obligation
She opens the door she's been waiting
And nobodys been coming
Seems like nobodys coming
But if you wouldnt mind staying
I'll fix you a drink if you need it
And it looks like you need it
The weather's hittin' so hard I cant believe it
How'd you ever drive through it
I don't know i kinda liked it
I don't know I wasn't thinkin
Lets forget about the bullshit
Lets just concentrate on drinking
All night

16. Brand Nubian, One for all....
....I think with the brain and I whip behind the zipper
I'm living kinda good similar to Jack Tripper
A landlord named Roper did a show at the Copa
When I finish with this, I'll be paid like Oprah
