that you tarred the entire lounge when those of us that tried to stay neutral while still debating subjects (such as a particular television prgram ctarring Kirstie Alley) got sucked in. YOu can speak from the heart but when you generalize toward everyone, people are going to challenge that.

of context by most of us... I hadn't seen the thread that started it either, and the whale thing is WAY over the line (in fact, why hasn't it been deleted) but it doesn't change the fact that skinner's thread seemed to be a generalized put-down of the "lounge elite" or whatever. Maybe I just need someone to tell me who the beautiful people are, so I can figure it out for myself.

11. It came across to me as a generalized criticism of the "beautiful people"

in the lounge. Since I'm not sure who those beautiful people are, and since it wouldn't make sense to call people who personally attack others' physical appearance as "beautiful" I assumed that he meant it a as the Lounge as a whole. EarlG cleared it up well into the thread, but as one who wasn't online when whatever it was happened, or who didn't happen upon the thread (which I've read subsequently, and DO see that it was probably directed at only a few), it doesn't change the fact that most people weren't involved and yet were lumped into the criticism.

The thread itself... the one that precipitated skinner's... yeah.. there were a couple of obnoxious posts, but I think most people posting on that thread were NOT dragging those insults into it with them, but were expressing relief at the fact that some amount of turmoil would be leaving with them (and I've seen the turmoil they have caused as well).

some of the stuff that got deleted today before anyone saw it (at least I hope, I was really trying) was horrific. It shamed me that anyone would post such cruel, infantile things about a person...that's right a person, not their ideals, opinions or even the tone that they were taking.

I know you can't know what the mods know, but I think that people who think that Skinner tarred the entire lounge don't know the whole story. Skinner is the fairest person I know, and I don't even know him. He is the most even handed, kindest person on this board.

Had I known, I would have read his thread in context...not reading it in context made it seem a bit broad..but NOW KNOWING the context, I can see why it made him upset and why he WOULD want to address the *culture* of the lounge in that regard.

29. I think you and I would both agree that a 'pile-on'

is not an unheard of thing on an anonymous message board. You, and I mean a generic you, can say whatever you want and not really take responsiblity for it. It is far harder to do that IRL. I wouldn't ever presume to speak for Skinner, but as for me, it was really distressing to see people I have genuinely grown to have affection for attacking in the manner in which they did.

It has been a very, very long day. Hopefully, tomorrow will be a fresh start.

Which is, getting more involved in the substance of discussions, nut just the bureaucracy of them. And stating his opinions, just like everybody else is doing -- without speaking from a high authoritarian horse.

I also appreciate the fact that you don't feel reluctant to openly beat up on what he said (and I don't mean that in any bad way whatsover).

I think these are all good developments.
