have you ever just completely lost any sense of motivation?
i am trying to figure out what is going on. i have completely lost my sense of motivation to do anything.

it's certainly not depression, or even unhappiness for that matter; quite the contrary really. i am extremely satisfied with where my life is and what i am doing with it.

but i just can't seem to find the motivation to do anything lately. i used to work out regularly, now it's sporadic, and even when i do it's never for as long as i used to. i used to cook big meals for myself but no longer feel like putting the big effort into it. i used to spend a lot of time studying and doing schoolwork and i'm too lazy to do even that. i don't even read for fun like i used to.

i think it has to do with monotony...it is just the same thing day in and day out. school, work, study, hang out with the same people and do the same things, lather, rinse, repeat. and repeat. and repeat. i even find that i don't go out as much as i used to and i'm certainly a lot less social than i used to be; instead i am spending a lot more time alone and at home.

i am moving to san francisco in january so i think that will shake things up a little bit...but that's 8 months away.

anyone else go through anything like this? what'd you do? how'd you deal with it, get over it? it's getting frustrating...

2. Actually... that *is* depression.
Unhappiness is only one sign.

Inability to enjoy the things you used to enjoy is another.

You're right, moving might shake things up for you.

Meanwhile, it can't hurt to go see a therapist and get checked out.

:hi:

17. OK, I'll switch off my mothering instinct...
just as soon as I say "Some therapists are better than others." Considering trying someone else.

OK, all done!

Best of luck to you!

3. I've been having the same feeling.
Mostly because of disappointments in looking for a job and non-academic related college bullshit. But I don't have the means to go on a vacation or do something I've never done before, so I'm just muddling through it. I know how you feel, buddy. :pals:

5. I did.

Mine turned out to be depression though. Before finally finding the first antidepressant that has ever worked for me in over 20 years of searching, I would take day trips to parks and just look at stuff I normally don't see very often or at all. I would read the sports page, which is something I never do any more. I would try looking up information about hobbies, instead of actually taking them up to save money, yet learn something new.

Maybe you are just tired of the monotony like you said. If you are moving to San Fran soon, you'll probably snap out of it. I have "met" a few San Franciscans (spelling?) online and they are really cool people. You'll be ok, just gotta get out of the doldrums and break the routine. I hate routine, or really monotony, too, btw.

6. Can't believe you posted this
I've been there for the last year.

Are you retired by any chance? Just asking, wondering if this an age thing.

You won't believe the change in my life the last year. Ms. perfection is not that way anymore, my house is neat, but not the way I kept it before. My house is clean when I know people are coming to my house.

I would rather spend all my time on the internet than do anything around the house. Cleaning I've done most of my life, computer opened up a new life to me. Computers arrived in my life in 1987, limited though. It probably exploded a about 8 years ago in my life but slowly. I bought my first computer about 6 years ago. Now I have Tiger and am overwhelmed.

8. far from retired...
i am only 20 years old

i know what you mean about cleanliness...my room is a mess; and tonight is my first night off in a couple weeks so i said i'd clean it...but eh, too lazy

school is over next week, so that'll free up some more time for me to get out there

it might just be a combination of stress and the monotony, and i can't remember the last time i wasn't tired

13. But....
you have worked so very hard during the last year. You need to give yourself a break.

Take the summer off (if you can) and just relax and enjoy life.

20 or 70, we all work hard but in different ways that is why it is important to respect each other.

fwiw, i bought a poster of a san francisco cityscape off ebay and hung it up on my wall, so that if i ever come home from work just sick of it all, i can look at it and remind myself why i'm working as much as i have been...

18. spring fever?
san francisco will definetly shake things up.

but in the mean time -- what you're describing is usually a component of depression.

so, how's your love life?
do you really want to move to s.f{i love it here -- i'm across the bay in oakland}

it sounds like something is missing or your having to do things you'ld rather not and can't find a way out.

or it might be that you're finishing school -- and when done you have become a different person? change?

20. You really think it's not depression?
It may very well be. Talk to a professional, even if it's only to find out that depression is not a factor.

Clinical depression is funny (not in the ha-ha sense) stuff, and not the same for everyone in the way it presents itself.
