How do I reject a job offer?
I was going to take a summer job, but I was just offered a position somewhere that is 30 mins closer to my house and does not require taking the $6 commuter rail. The people at the first organization were so nice and I want to send them a letter that is genuinely regretful.

This has never happened to me before!

1. Letter is Best
or e-mail if they need to know sooner. Don't fret too much about this.

2. Lucky you
Gratitude and grace are what you want to convey in your letter. Thank them kindly for their kind offer and express regret that circumstances (in this case, a closer location and lower commuting costs) place you in a position where for your own position you need to take this other position. And thank them again and tell them you'll send someone their way if you can (I mean, if you really can that is)

3. Say you liked meeting them, compliment them, and say you've
decided to take another opportunity.

You're lucky, LOL!

4. Yeah, and be honest with them.
Tell them how nice they were and how much you
appreciate the opportunity.

Hey, business is business things like this
happen all the time.

5. I agree. Send them a nice letter and just be honest.
Its always good to maintain good relations. You may never see any of these people again. Then again, you may end up working with one of them someday. Funny things like that can happen in life.
