Archaeological Sites Or Cell Phone Towers? You Decide...
Thought I'd call your attention to a post I have in GD concerning Repug moves to gut the National Historic Preservation Act at the hands of their corporate cronies:

2. The James Watt excuse
Remember when James Watt was the secretary of the interior under Reagan? Repukes today are still under the false impression that preserving our nation's resources and history for the future is a moot point due to the impeding christian "rapture." Here's a few quotes from his reign:

"We will mine more, drill more, cut more timber."
--Secretary of the Interior James Watt

"A left-wing cult dedicated to bringing down the type of government I believe in."
--James Watt describing environmentalists

"A tree's a tree. How many more do you need to look at?"
--Ronald Reagan

"I do not know how many future generations we can count of before the Lord returns."
--James Watt, February 5, 1981

However, it was not Watts' stance on environmental issues that compelled the Reagan administration to eventually force his resignation. It was the fallout from the following comment he made to a group of lobbyists regarding the makeup of his coal-leasing commission:

"We have every kind of mix you can have. I have a black, I have a woman, two Jews and a cripple."
--James Watt, September 21, 1983

Eighteen days later, Watt resigned.

3. My God! Sickening! The More Things Change, The More They Stay The Same!
Sad thing it that Bush probably would have given him a freedom medal for saying such things!

6. Good old Watt. We thought we'd seen the last of his type,
but we were wrong. They're just more subtle and careful of how they say things.

Distressedamerican, thanks for bringing this issue up. It's an important one.
