15. Yeah, better for older kids...
I went to Watership Down when it came out, and some woman was in the audience with her young kids...there were two scenes that had these kids FREAKING (and not in a good way). I'd wait until the kids were at least 10 or 11.

But, probably my favorite movie adaptation from one of my favorite books as a kid...they did a great job with it...

The same people also did Richard Adams "The Plague Dogs" as an animated film...truly the most DEPRESSING animated film I've ever seen (two dogs escape from a lab where horrible experimentation was being done, and the lab tells the public the dogs have the plague so that people don't find out what they've been doing). I cried like a baby at the end...

That there is a song with a message. And that message is that you need to think about the starving people that gotta eat sand to survive. Sand ain't got no nutrients. I know, cause I eat it constantly. I got zero energy, I cough all the time, my diet's bad and... zzz.

44. Yes - there are many stories of kids so upset after seeing that scene..
Edited on Fri May-13-05 12:49 AM by ReadTomPaine
they couldn't stop crying all evening, had to go home and couldn't see the rest of the movie, etc.. It's a sort of culturally shared phenomena for people old enough to have caught it on one of it's periodic theatrical runs.

on edit - see posts 25 & 32 :)

32. Oh. my. god.
I was driving home from New Orleans to Austin, from a visit with my parents.. and leaving them after the visit was difficult on me, since I've been feeling homesick for my momma for a long time.

Anyway, just when I was beginning to feel a bit better and move-on in my mind to other things, on NPR comes "Baby Mine."

I bawled like a little baby for a good fifteen minutes from that song. It made me a friggin wreck.

God, I'm tearing-up right now.. stop it NOW, Tommy!

Good song. It can catch someone off-guard..

Also, Tigger's sad and reflective little song he sings in a Winnie the Pooh cartoon called "Monkey See, Monkey Do Better." I thought that one was so "deep" when I watched it as a child!

Vin Diesel. His first big role.

"I can be anyone I want. I want to be... Superman." Yes, I'm a guy, and I choked up at that scene. Good call.

40. The ending song
:hi:
Lyrics:
Somewhere, a voice calls, in the depths of my heart
May I always be dreaming, the dreams that move my heart

So many tears of sadness, uncountable through and through
I know on the other side of them I'll find you

Everytime we fall down to the ground we look up to the blue sky above
We wake to it's blueness, as for the first time

Though the road is long and lonely and the end far away, out of sight
I can with these two arms embrace the light

As I bid farewell my heart stops, in tenderness I feel
My silent empty body begins to listen to what is real

The wonder of living, the wonder of dying
The wind, town, and flowers, we all dance one unity

Somewhere a voice calls in the depths of my heart
keep dreaming your dreams, don't ever let them part

Why speak of all your sadness or of life's painfull woes
Instead let the same lips sing a gentle song for you

The whispering voice, we never want to forget,
in each passing memory always there to guide you

When a miror has been broken, shattered pieces scattered on the ground
Glimpses of new life, reflected all around

Window of beginning, stillness, new light of the dawn
Let my silent, empty body be filled and reborn

No need to search outside, nor sail across the sea
Cause here shining inside me, it's right here inside me

I've found a brightness, it's always with me

47. When I was a little kid, during Disney's Robin Hood
They had sort of this weird split between Ustinov and some other Brit-dialect animals and then a bunch of Southern-fried folks like Pat Buttram, and the soundtrack was like a sixties folk protest thingy. Anyway they had a song "Not in Nottingham" that they played right after Friar Tuck got chained up and led away, and I cried.
