How come in Star Trek, the second choice weapon is always a club? When Kirk was fighting the green thing, why didn't he wish for a crossbow or a 0.38 instead of a club? The one with the underground rock monster made of carpet remnants; when the miners were told that phaser #1 was ineffective against the rock monster, why did they say that they would use clubs if they had too? Okay, so your 23rd century, high-tech ray guns don't work, but hitting it with a piece of wood will surely fuck it up. In the film First Contact, Worf finds out his phaser rifle doesn't work, so he cuts the Borg in half with a clever! Nuclear powered weapons that take apart matter on the atomic level have no effect, but the wedge-shaped piece of metal will do it if I hit him really hard!
