I just don't get it. Crystal meth.
Montel has two teenage girls on his show this morning, both of whom are or have been addicted to meth.

I just can't see how anyone would want to snort or shoot Drano. It's beyond my comprehension.

He's offering one girl free rehab, but she doesn't want to go. I know it's a disease--addiction, I mean--but how can she not take an opportunity to get that poison out of her body forever.

Meth surely is the ugliest, baddest drug ever. :(

1. its also one of the more addictive
worse than cocaine, so they say.

but you know what must be worse?

I used to work with the mission board of my church, and you know what? all the step programs to get people off alcohol, crack, heroine, and these people successfully kick those habits, but then you talk to them, and you know what they're doing?

smoking a cigarette.

2. oh it is it is
my friend has been dabbling in meth for the last four years. her parents sent her to an all girls christian camp in the hills and rehab clinic.
(not a good choice)
she's better now, but i think her main issue was quitting (aside from addicition) was denial and her not accepting that she has a problem.

it's a hard drug. she had sores on her face, legs, she lost excess amounts of weight.
sheesh, it's horrible, i'll stick with :smoke:

3. I quit smoking cigarettes. It's hard. We should be finding ways to
not have acces to anything that's addictive. Once you get hooked on something, the body just takes over.

4. Ever Tried It?
I haven't done it in many years and was never hooked on it, but it was a great high.
You're not slurred like weed or alcohol, you have incredible energy and stamina, sex drive through the roof and feel like you are in a fabulous mood.
These are all the reasons it is so dangerous.

5. attraction is similar
to cocaine. users will eventually pay for that euphoria (i'm paying for playing w/ coke whilst a narc) but you can't really convince a youngster that deferred payment is not worth the "fun".

immed downside to ANY crank is the resultant crash & depression, but they compensate by tooting up again.

meth is a scourge, nodowt. have to add that alcohol & nicotine are also.

8. Yes...as I know.
Edited on Thu May-12-05 09:02 AM by terrya
I did crystal meth when I was living in Dallas in the mid 80's. It was the most incredibly stupid thing I ever did in my life. Yes...you're ingesting god knows what into your system. I was hooked because of the rush and the incredible sexual desire I felt. I'd do a bit with some friends and then it would be off to the bathhouse afterwards. Just the most horribly stupid behavior imaginable.

It ultimately destroyed my life. As it did my friendship with my best friend Scott, who abused crystal meth himself and warned me not to get into it. But...good times (or so I thought) were more important than the scolding of my friend.

Crystal meth IS an ugly, nasty, evil drug which will destroy friendships, your career...and ultimately yourself.

16. isn't that odd that's it's such an issue again, and so much more
prevalent than back then? It seems like this drug was around in the 80s,I too remember a friend who did it when we used to go to NYC a lot. I always said no when it was offered. :scared:

26. The City of Chicago is beginning to try to crackdown on crystal meth sales
It's particularly prevailent in the gay community here. You're right, tigereye. It's very strange that it seems to be even more wide spread now than in the 80's. I suppose an advantage to crystal meth is how relatively easy it is to produce...insuring that there's a ready supply available.

Good for you to NOT partake of it when offered, btw. It was party time at first with me...but the party was over very, very quickly.

33. It's not, Maddy.
My friend Scott died of AIDS a couple of years after I left Dallas. Which was 1988.

That would have been cool, though.

Edited on Thu May-12-05 09:06 AM by Shell Beau
as to why anyone would want to put that in their body. I've heard battery acid, ammonia, bleach. All kind of stuff people would not normally put in their body. I just don't get it, nor do I want to. Surely there is a safer way to get high. What happened to good ole pot?

He created a reduction of ephedrine. Since then as the components used to make it have been restricted the "cooks" have learned to improvise.

23. Here's the ingredients and the processing chemicals
The ingredients are very dangerous to be around...much less to put into your body.

1. Psuedoephedrine (we all know about this ingredient)

2.Iodine crystals (can get it at the pharmacy or feed store, Iodine Tincture. It's mostly used for horses to treat some problem in their hooves.

3.Red Phosphorus (used on strike pads of match boxes)

Processing Chemicals include: Coleman fuel, Muriatic Acid, Acetone, Methanol. All of these are very flamable, toxic chemicals. Imagine the smell of a meth lab set up in a small trailer.

27. I know they tend to be bad in my state. I remember one time I called
my brother (a former cop) on his birthday and he was watching a lab that he had been watching for over two weeks. While I was on the phone with him, he said "I gotta go" abrubtly. Apparently they caught the meth makers. It is so dangerous to make and use and it appears to be the new drug of choice (it's cheap I think)

you feel invincible and capable of anything and everything while it destroys your body and your mind and your life...

it was easier to score than weed when i lived in california during the 80's and 90's, particulary in the gay scene...

22. Ten users of Meth use (not me!! - the picture)

If you want to see how bad meth is, watch the documentary "Crank, Made in the USA" This drug is a fricking 'family values' drug because the parents will be on it and they'll get their kids started on it. Nastiest drug out there!

And believe me, you do not want to live next door to a crank lab because if that thing explodes (and it's highly explodable), everything surrounding it will be bombed too.

30. The problem is it's so damned easy to synthesize
Edited on Thu May-12-05 09:38 AM by Walt Starr
Back in the eighties, you could get enough ephedrine to quickly synthesize into about a pound of meth for under $40. Next it was cold medicines like Sudafed.

It grows in a damned weed, Ephedra, which is why you can't get Ephedra in herb shops any more (even though they used a different excuse for that one). Extraction techniques are easier than for extracting cocaine from coca leaves:

And believe me, not too many cops are on the lookuout for people growing Ephedra in their yards. Small crops would produce big money worth of meth.
