Possums rock!
North America's only marsupials are as smart as pigs - - and slightly less smelly!

You don't need Toxic Tom Delay to get rid of insect pests if you've got a 'possum or two in the neighborhood!

http://www.opossum.org/facts.htm

North America's only marsupial (female has a pouch) mammal. The female carries and nurses her young in her marsupium until they are about 2 to 3 months old; then they are carried on her back another 1 to 2 months whenever they are away from the den.

Size of a cat; grey to black fur; black eyes; pink nose, feet and tail; black ears; and pointed nose.

Solitary and nocturnal: usually slow moving; when frightened and unable to flee may fall into an involuntary shock-like state, "playing 'possum".

Hiss or growl and show their 50 sharp teeth when frightened; but, in reality, they are gentle and placid— they prefer to avoid all confrontations and wish to be left alone.

Omnivorous: eats insects, snails, rodents, berries, over-ripe fruit, grasses, leaves, and carrion; occasionally will eat snakes, ground eggs, corn or other vegetables.

Adaptable; able to live wherever water, food, and shelter exist. At home in trees; uses its prehensile tail to help stabilize position when climbing— it does not, however, hang by its tail.

Few live beyond the age of 1 year in the environment; rare reports of living 5 to 10 years in captivity. Killed by many predators: humans (and cars), dogs, cats, owls, and larger wildlife.

And had never seen a 'possum or even knew there was such a thing as a wild animal, moved to a loft in the skid row part of downtown LA. He was at a local ATM, where he suddenly saw a 'possum dumpster diving.

He screamed in terror:

OH MY GOD THERE ARE RATS HERE THE SIZE OF FRENCH POODLES!!!

Needless to say I was ROTFLMTO...

3. I had a baby one as a pet. Found it by the side of the road...
but it died after a month or so. There is a lady here who raises many abandoned ones all at once. I wished I had taken it to her.

4. When I was in junior high, I had a paper route....

I woke up like 4:00 every morning went to the garage with my eyes closed and got on my bike to do my route. We had this big gray cat who had a self-feeder in the garage. One morning I saw Yatzee eating his breakfast and so I went down to pet him. I almost touch him and I realize that it is way too huge to be Yahtzee at about the same time as it turns around with this long huge nose and beady eyes. It scared the bejesus out of me, man did I wake up fast! And poor Yahtzee was beneath the toolbench quivering with fear.

on edit, definitely bared its teeth at me and hissed.
