I Had A Serious Brain Fart In Class Today
For some odd reason, my 20th Century Art Class was just incredibly boring today. It might not have been the class, so much as the fact that I've only had 6 hours of sleep in the past 2 days, but I was tired to the point of having blurred vision and practically falling out of my chair.

We were looking at Carnival of Harlequin by Joan Miró:

and I barely even remember doing it, but I raised my hand for some reason right as the professor was about to stop taking questions/comments and move on, after being silent all class, and just said the first thing to come to mind, which was:

Yeah...I think it's crucial that like...maybe it...okay, I think it's important to note that this is taking place inside...you know...not outside...maybe its a comment about technology...society maybe?...which you could see if you looked out the window...the paintings window...*cricket cricket*...yeah, that's all.

Apparently, it must have been as bad as I thought, because I looked over at my friends and their eyes were either popped open as wide as possible, or they were doing their best to hold back crazy laughter.

The professor did the best to salvage my nonsensical ramblings into some type of meaningful observation, but that was like fuel to the fire of my friends laughter. The sad part is that my comments are usually pretty good and I'm usually one of the better students in the class. My rep (what little I had) has just been dashed against the rocks.

...

Remind me to never think out loud again. Geez.

1. It sounded good, actually *
* if you were stoned at the time.

Seriously, it isn't all that bad.

9. Placebo, look at this fantastic web site of Miro paintings:

I can still remember about fifty years ago -- when I found out that JOAN Miro -- was a man!

Seriously, it's a feminine name in English -- and I haven't a clue about it in Spanish.

5. I was an "A" student in high school, and was on the debating team --
Edited on Wed May-11-05 08:46 PM by Radio_Lady
We were debating another school and I mispronounced the word "archaic" during my presentation.

The teached laughed out loud and corrected me in front of everyone! I was mortified. I can still remember the feeling. But I've never mispronounced that word again.

I LOVE Joan Miró! (Such a whimsical artist!) Just try to get some rest and relaxation and don't smoke dope (at least, not before you get to class)!

My father used to have a wonderful quote, which he used frequently. It was: "Will it matter 100 years from today?" My humble answer always had to be -- "NO! It probably didn't matter 10 minutes after it happened!"

Happy studying! I wish I could give you a big hug! It took me seven years to get through college -- no fault of anyone else, just big HUGE emotional problems which I have solved. It only took me several decades to do it!

8. Oh -- OK. Didn't mean to disparage your bad habits, whatever they are!
I guess you were just sleepy but someone else suggested you may have been stoned. My fault -- I apologize.

3. You shoulda started crying halfway through
then blurted something like, "It just speaks so personally to me..."

Then grabbed your bag, run out of class and go have a beer.

4. It's OK, honey.
 We all do things like that. It's what makes us human, charming and creative. And, it's just that time of year. I have two kids in finals....it's actually quite a normal response to an abnormal situation. Your friends are probably as challenged as you feel.

And, I was actually following your comment.
