I'm 35 and just got an Army Reserve recruiting brochure mailed
to me! I'm thiry-five, asthmatic, about 20 pounds overweight, and have extremely poor vision (hell it's why they turned me down when I tried to enlist in high school) do you think they'd take me today?

I'm guessing yes.

The only thing I can think of is I am back in grad school now and they go after anybody in college.

Any other over-the-hill types getting recruited out there?

2. Like when I was called 40+ years ago (Cuban Missile Crisis) if I wanted to
go back on active duty in the navy, your country needs you.

3. I wouldn't want to put to much weight on one single brochure,
but there is NO way this is a good sign for an all volunteer force in perpetuity.

4. Strongly suspect an all volunteer force can't provide needed fodder for
a perpetual war against terra.

5. Enlist...
I think everyone at DU should enlist. And then, one day and on a pre-determined cue, we'll all start skipping. Everywhere. We'd have DU'ers on patrol in Bagdhad skipping down the street. Doing close order drill on base, skipping merrily along. In front of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Skipping.

I'm telling you, we'd bring the military-industrial complex to its knees in a matter of minutes.

6. My father-in-law, a former Vietnam veteran Green Beret,
received a letter asking him about his current circumstance and physical conditioning in 1990 for the first war of aggression against Iraq. He was at least 52. He wrote some appropriate expletives on it and mailed it back.
