Sony,Dreamworks and Schering-Plough HealthCare Products Donate !
Edited on Wed May-11-05 11:26 AM by rhino47
I was rather upset when my husands friend lost his son in Iraq on sat.
I was rather frustrated at not being able to do anything.I decided to send a carepackage to his unit as an outlet.
In reading what they needed I decided to try to call companies to see if they would donate goods.
Sony Studios are donating 200 dvds
Dreamworks is dontating a case of dvds
Schering-Plough Healthcare Products is donating
a case of Lotrimin Af.
I was really touched that they would do so only on my word.
I have only contacted these so far.I need suggestions on who else to contact (the biggest requests from the marines is dvds ,ps2 games gatoraid, vitamins, and ready to eat food).

(chef boyardee ) also dontated free product coupons
for two cases of microwavables.A big thanks to Darren there.

1. That's really very nice of you, rhino
Call all those companies' rivals and make them aware of the pledges you got so far. Then call your local paper's new desk and tell them what you've done, speak to a reporter, see if you can get publicity for both the companies AND your own efforts. You might even inspire a local drive, teenagers willing to give up some of their own DVD's for the cause.

That's a good effort you're doing!

2. Thats a great idea !
Though it would sound kinda like self promotion if I let it be known that I contacted them.I would have to word it carefully to make sure it doesnt come out that way.I would love to have people donate stamps (for shipping).
Think ups etc would donate that?

3. Don't worry about the self-promotion part. Think of it as initiative
--taking the initiative to get the ball rolling and spurring other people to take part, who would want to help but wouldn't have known how to get started by themselves.

I think UPS might, you never know till you try. Try asking for their PR person. I once did some volunteer work for an organization and had to go around asking local businesses for donations. I was stunned when they said yes! I thought they'd just tell me to get lost! But people do want to help, and a surprising number will say yes if you just ask them. Of course it helps if you can assure them they'll get some kind of credit for their generosity ;)
