*UPDATE* on Child's Accident
At 11AM Pacific Time this morning, the child will be having surgery to stop the flow of spinal fluid from his ears. There is still bleeding coming from there too. A tube will also be inserted into his stomach, which I believe is related to the spinal issue (removal of excess fluid?), but I am not sure. I know next to nothing about these matters, and I didn't probe for understanding... just nodded my head with sympathy. Has a broken foot, and I am sure other injuries.

I am a complete idiot at times like this. :-(

Everyone's support has been appreciated. Let us all wish him a successful surgery this morning. He is a tough little trooper, eh?

If what I was told was accurate... I would think paralysis is likely, but I will not speculate beyond what I am reporting what I was told. :-(

A co-worker's child... unless you meant that in a more universal sense. Like I said, I am not too bright today...

If this were my child, I would be so beside myself I couldn't post on DU!

Thanks fluffer!

fluid and blood the way he is. Thank heavens he is in an area with a good trauma center, at least.

Heck, even the broken foot can turn out to be a problem even if he escapes brain damage and paralysis. I had a roommate in college who broke a leg when she was 2 and had to wear a lift because one leg was shorter than the other. And a guy in our dorm broke his arm when he was 6 and it was shorter (and the hand much smaller) than the other one.

*praying hard*

27. Aw f*, medical info too
Thanks for the update and sorry you all have to go through this. Stomach tube might be to suck stomach fluids from stomach as sometimes neurological injuries can make your digestive system not function (stuff doesn't get pushed through digestive tract). Basically by removing stomach fluids and any food left in there, it won't just sit and rot. Spinal fluid leaks from ears after a trauma like this because there is a tiny opening through the skull for your hearing nerve to come out. This can be easily injured. It's good he's in a good trauma center. He must look a mess, bruised swollen eyes and all. Let us know what happens please. Thanks and take care.
